I've heard of some ridiculous amounts that make me glad to live in Alabama. Here the average for one of the top daycare facilities is between $475 to $525 a month.
We take our DD to an in-home sitter who is also a SAHM, and we pay $400/month now and will pay $700 a month for two kids. I feel like that's a bargain compared to what some people pay!

700 for two kids is a bargain! Infant care in centers around here is around 1000 a month. We are in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
We use a come daycare for DD and it's 585 a month, and for an infant will be 650 a month. We feel so blessed to have found someone we love at a great price!
Here in Southern Ontario Canada most daycares for a 1 year old (our maternity is a year long so thats when most kids start day care at 1) is around $1100 a month at 18 months old the fees drop by $300 - $400 a month.
I'm in the NoVA suburbs outside of DC and I think the typical cost for a daycare center in our area (for an infant) is between $300 and $400 per week. In-home daycare can be slightly cheaper (i.e., $250 to $350). Nannies are in the $800 per week range.

We live in Minneapolis and have found that the centers average around $1200 per month, at least what I have looked at so far. Seriously contemplating quitting my job and staying home with LO for the first year as I am currently going to school. When I graduate our schedule and budget will become much more flexible and then it's daycare time!
We're looking at family daycare (in-home) and it ranges from ~$1,200 - $1,700 a month.
Actual daycare centers are about $1,900 - $2,400 a month.
It sucks.
Whoa!! Where do you live?!
I am pretty sure she is in New York. C, correct me if I am wrong?
Indeed you are correct, my friend Manhattan costs are O-U-T-R-A-G-E-O-U-S. Sad face. We may just pick up and move home to Hawaii instead. TBD, though
PS - B, I think you should totally stay home! I wish I could do that; I think it'd be amazing to bond like that. And, umm, also, when is your anatomy?! Or are you guys team green? So excited for you!
San Diego - $1135 or $1583 a month - I have to choose. The cheaper one is by my home and not work and is only operational 7:30am to 5:30pm - would have to leave work 15 minutes early everyday to make it there in time. More expensive by work is operational 6:00am to 6:30pm so no traffic issues but $400 a month is ALOT of money. Decisions decisions! Yikes!
Our top choice center is $1420/month for infants and toddlers. (Sacramento area of N. California)
Average in our area for centers is probably around $1000/mo. I don't know about in-home b/c we're only looking at centers.
I'm in the same area. The center I'm looking at is around $1200 for full time. We need three days a week, and the centers I called only offer full time. The in-home I looked into was $550 a month for part time. We're still looking and hoping to find an in-home we love.

We're looking at a minimum of $250 a week... The center we like best is $260 a week. I also looked at places that were $1350 and $1700 a month... All were daycare centers.

I Live in central NJ & daycare at a reputable location is about $1000-$1200/month when fulltime. My baby will be in daycare 3x/week so I have to inquire as to discounts to that

DD is currently in one of the best day cares in the area, (was my favorite by FAR when we toured) and it's $670 a month for her. It will be just under $1000 for 2 babies if I return to work. We live in Mississippi.
For the life of me, I still can't figure out where the Director got the $1000 for 2, but that's what she told me when I asked recently. They also just raised their cost to $700 a month, but we'll continue to get our rate.

Wow, Lydia! You have it good! We pay $800/mo for Kate's school, and will pay $1705/mo for 2. It is, in my opinion, the BEST school in Birmingham, so that makes me feel better about the cost, but man, it would be nice to have $1000 extra a month! I have to keep reminding myself she's learning there, not just being babysat. She can read 3-4 letter words and can write her name, etc and she's not even 3.5 yet, so that makes it worth it, I guess. At least that makes me feel better about spending so much
Holy crap, some of those are expensive! We are looking at about $125/week for home daycare or $150-$250/week for a daycare center. We were lucky to find someone a couple houses down from us who is a great lady and SAHM, and who takes care of one kid whose parents we already know.
