naps and daycare

I'm still working through DD's naps. I've transitioned her from the swing to the crib but to do that, I have to nurse her to sleep for naps.  I also do this at night. Plus, of course, nursing her during the day when she's hungry and it's not yet nap time. I do work from home which gives me the ability to do this but of course, nursing her to sleep for naps is taking more time than I had thought and thus, I'm having a hard time getting things done.  We have a nanny but because DD won't take a bottle (a different issue, we've tried everything and after 6 weeks of trying, decided to give up), she can't feed her to sleep.

Out of curiosity, those of you who had/have DC in daycare and who nursed your DC to sleep at night, what did your DC do to fall asleep when at daycare? Do they give bottles to all the babies when it's their nap time? Or does DC have to figure out how to self soothe?

Re: naps and daycare

  • I don't nurse Olivia to sleep at night I have to rock her to sleep after she nurses.  Olivia likes to nap in the swing or vibrating seat, she has always been good about putting herself to sleep in those things.  She is the only infant at her in-home daycare so she does get rocked to sleep frequently.

  • DD just doesn't nap, haha!  She's never been a good napper. I dont really think she requires being nursed to sleep.  But she just doesn't want to nap...especially at daycare because there is so much going on.

DCP basically go with the flow. There is no set nap time so she doesn't get a bottle before that. She's fed on demand and sleeps when she wants.  Some days she'll fall asleep after a bottle.  I nurse her at lunch, and some days she falls right to sleep...other days she doesn't.

But her napping is just all over the place.  She napped for a total of 30 minutes (broken up in 3 naps!) earlier this week and last Friday.  But yesterday she got in a nap that was almost an hour long along with some other short cat naps.  I'm always excited to see her nap more than 20 mins!

I'd love if she napped more...but she isn't fussy at daycare and it doesn't seem to affect her nighttime sleep.

ETA: Oh and they rock them if needed too.
