But, how tall are your kids while they're rear facing?  My DS is very tall and now I'm thinking that turning him around will come a lot sooner than we had planned.

  • DD is 30".  I was wondering when to turn them around too.  I want to keep her in there RF until she's 2 yrs+...  Their website shows the height to be for 49" or less for both FF and RF.  That is confusing to me.  Does that mean they can stay RF until they're 49" or less and 2 yrs?

I thought that's what it meant when I bought the seat.  However, their heads can not be closer than 1 inch from the top of the SHELL of the seat, which DOES NOT include the harness adjuster head rest, I don't think.  It's not 100% clear in the manual, but someone mentioned it to me in a previous post and I think she's right, I even went back and re-read a lot.
The shell of the seat isn't that high.  I've already raised the harness straps at least twice, and they need to be raised again.  I highly doubt he has much more room to grow, if any.  He's 31+ inches.
Also, it says a seated shoulder height of 16.25 inches is appropriate, but again, if their head is big or their neck is long, etc.  I think the ultimate rule is 1 inch from the top of the shell is the better rule to follow.

  • Oh great.  DH is going to love this.  We just bought a second seat for his car that's the exact same one I have.  I sure hope she lasts as long as I told him she would in this seat.  DD is long, she is 95%...she always has been.  I really want her RF as long as possible.  I thought she'd last in her infant car seat til 1 year.  She lasted til 5 months.  Ugh.

I was hoping for DS's infant car seat to last til he was 1, also, and it lasted 6ish months (it goes to 30 inches) because he's got a long torso.

I'm still finding conflicting pictures online of other users, so I'm not 100% sure which one is correct or not.  I looked in the manual and it says the SHELL, the shell in the diagram they give is different than the head rest/harness restraint piece.  But I've been finding a ton of pictures online showing otherwise (but they're not Britax pictures, they're user pictures).

  • I would go by the manual then.  You can always call Britax to clairify.  I think I might do that when I get more time next week.
