Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Transitioning from...co-sleeping

DS started out STTN at two weeks.  He was so great he would go to bed at 8 and wake at 7.  I was the proudest mama.  Then at about six months he would start waking at 5 or so and I would grab him and snuggle him to sleep in a few more hours until it was time for everyone to wake for the day.

I created a monster.  He learned that he could do it earlier and earlier and he would get to sleep with me longer and longer.  He still USUALLY goes to bed at 8 but ends up with me anywhere from 11 to 4 am...

Any suggestions on how I can get him from being a dreaded co-sleeping baby and back to the independent baby he used to be?

Re: Transitioning from...co-sleeping

  • When we stopped swaddling DS at 6 months, he also refused sleeping in his crib for more than an hour or two so I would bring him into bed too. I ended up sleeping on an air mattress in his room to get him used to sleeping in there again. Then we slept trained him using the Sleepeasy Solution. It's like Ferber with timed check-ins. Now he loves his crib and actually wants to go in there.
