Per this thread, we're hoping to condense a lot of the "gawker" threads into one! We thought this would make them more fun to browse and the board an easier read. We'll start a new thread every day to keep the list fresh.

Anyone is welcome to add to the post--local hospital names, the awful name you over heard at the park, Facebook horrors, and anything else that might give us a good chuckle! Feel free to comment, too.

I don't think Avery is too bad..probably because of GA, even though I am assuming Avery is the Dr's last name. I think of it as a girls name though.

I just came across Helisent on a Nameberry blog entry.

It's one tiny little connecting line away from being Hellsent.

How could anyone possibly think it's a good idea to insinuate that your daughter came to you straight from hell?

a boy named Age. Not kidding you. At first i thought I read the post wrong and they were saying his age, but there were no numbers anywhere in the post... very confusing. Poor kid.

I say thank god for your friend using the name on the correct gender. Avery is a boy name. A good boy name. It wasn't until the past few years that parents have used it for girls -- pisses me off.

Ditto to this! Growing up I knew a couple of Averys and they were men/boys. But then again Ashley was once a boy's name too.

In HS our beloved janitor's name was Avery.

Taribbean (like Caribbean except with a T).  It was a little boy I worked with a few years ago.  I always felt sorry for him that he'd have to go around explaining his name like that.

This is also the Indian name of a mountain (Mt. McKinley) in ALaska. I think it means the big one.

I use to work at a portrait studio and saw a lot of horrible names.  A few were, Turtle, Minoha, Ooze (like the gun), and Precious Baby.

A little girl named Russelliana. Apparently it's a type of rose (I just googled it), but it is a mouthful. I don't think it flows well, besides looking fake, IMO.

This. Avery is classically a boy's name. I actually know an Avery in his 30's, and  I am sure he just loves that people think he has a girl's name! This is my biggest issue with the trend to name girls boys names... the boys are the ones who get frustrated (speaking as the wife of a man with a unisex name who cringes every time he meets a woman with his name).

Wow, this is a Natural Family Planning method. I sure hope they were just clueless and didn't actually name their baby over the method they used to conceive him.
