I ADORE Sylvia so much, that I couldn't bear to use something so close to it, without actually using it. Sylvie would make a great nickname for it though (pronounced SIL-vee).
I realize Sylvie is a legitimate full name in French (though it's pronounced seel-VEE there), but to me (an American), it comes across as just a cutesy nickname. (Though it is a nn I like very much.)
I don't know if you are French, and really I don't care either way. (I'm not against using a name from a culture outside your heritage.) But I am curious to know how you would pronounce it? SIL-vee or seel-VEE?
Like others, I prefer Sylvia or Silvia, but I like Sylvie, too. I think that Sylvia is ready for a comeback as an alternative to Sophia ? as is Sonia/Sonja.

Okay, according to the SSA, it had been slowly, but steadily declining since the 1940s. But it's been holding steady in the 500-550 range for 10 years now.
Additionally, the HYR would put a small pre-comeback at around 2010-2020, with a larger, fully-fledged comeback somewhere around 2030-2040.
The best news is that according to THIS NAMEBERRY BLOG ENTRY, Sylvia is an honest-to-goodness classic. So by their definition, it spans all generations.
Taking all three of these things into consideration, I believe you are right! Sylvia does seem poised for a comeback.

Love it - as a nn of Sylvia. We named our first baby Sylvia, but refer to her as Sylvie. I think it's beautiful, just not a fan of using nn as actual names.

This. But I'm really not into Sylvia at all. Sylvie is cute.
