Body after baby?

How are y'all going to get back into shape after you deliver? So far my weight gain has been healthy and on-track, but because of my short frame I look as though I've gained far more! Until my baby is big enough to sit in the jogging stroller, I plan on taking her for walks, doing some Zumba dvd's, and maybe surfing once a week once the Dr gives me the "ok" on excercise! I can't wait to see my shape again.

What are your plans?

Re: Body after baby?

  • I plan to enjoy life while BFing knocks the weight off.  Once I plateau I will go back on WW to lose whatever else I want to lose.

With DS I gained 33lbs, by my 6 week check up I had lost 45 and I was eating a TON.  BFing is a great "work out" plan ;)

  • I'll be back on Weight Watchers as soon as I'm allowed to go...
  • I dropped all of my baby weight (and then some) by nursing, walking, and Wii Fit!  I'll probably do the same this time around as well as chasing around my wild toddler!  :)

  • I'm hoping to breastfeed, do lots of walks while "baby-wearing" -- like to the farmer's market we have every Friday and on our local riverwalk, and to get back to my normal dance classes as well as to get my eating back under control. I was one of those work-a-holics who would *forget* to eat before being pregnant, so it's amazing to me that I now HAVE to eat so much.

  • I plan on BFing so that will help some. However, I also plan on doing the couch to 5k running plan(I was doing it over the summer and then stuff came up), as well as some dvds that I have on the alternate nights that i don't run. I also figure that I currently don't weight too much more than I was pre-pregnancy due to weight loss in the beginning, that I will hopefully have less to lose after baby. But prior to baby, i was working on losing weight, so I hope to reach my goal i had pre-pregnancy after baby comes.

  • I bought some postpartum workup dvds that were on babysteals a while ago. I haven't gained very much weight, but my abs are totally split and I am hoping to get them back as much as I can. The videos cater to this problem, so hopefully they work.

  • I plan on BFing to help lose the weight, but by October I have to be able to pass an APFT. So I more than likely will be doing street runs, going to the track, hitting up the gym and working on pushups and situps. I'm cringing just thinking about it.
  • Until I am healed enough and ready to really work out, I will do yoga, lift light weights, take the baby for walks, and try to eat really well/breastfeed.

When I get the okay, I'm going back to my cycling. I was doing around 75 miles a week before I got pregnant and was in the best shape of my life. And since it's garden season, I always get a great workout working/digging in the yard.

  • I'll be heading back to the gym and running trail.  Heavy lifting, moderate-hard cardio on the machines, and some nice, long runs on the trail.  Honestly, I can't wait.  Once I regain some endurance, I'll head back to the pool for masters prac. as well.

Hopefully this heartburn will disappear in the process and I won't need the cooling relief of ice cream nearly so much, either.

Ditto on that! I have already dropped 15 of the 25 lbs I gained, breastfeeding plus housework plus running after my almost 2 year old should be all of the "workout" I need!

  • I'm so excited about this part. We got the kinect for the xbox 360 and there are so many things that I can't do while pregnant.  We bought a weight loss game too.  So I plan on playing the games, work out program, and breastfeeding.  We bought the kinect early on in pregnancy and I have been wanting to play soooooo bad.....

  • I plan on BFing, so I know that will help, but I am not counting on just that alone. I also plan on eating healthy and walking until I get the ok to go back to the gym. After I get the ok, DH has said that after he comes home from work, I get my "gym time" and he will take care of her and start dinner if needed. If the weight I have gained is still hanging out (which I have only gained about 20 lbs so far, so I really hope it doesn't) I will go back on weight watchers.

  • I'll be walking as soon as I feel up to it, throwing in the elliptical soon after that and running again after I'm cleared at 6 weeks - that worked well last time ;-)
  • I can't wait to get in some good hard runs. And I have continued to work out at the gym throughout this pregnancy so I will be doing that as well.

  • I haven't stepped foot in a gym in over 2 years... but I'm thinking after the doc gives me the OK I'm going to join a local one.  Like one of the pp's said, I'll get my 'gym time" when DH gets home from work.  The gym that's nearby also has free childcare, so in the event a class is during the day (like yoga, or better yet, Zumba!) I can leave LO in their nursery for an hour.

  • I plan on BF'ing as well....along with walks wearing the baby and toting the dog.  I'm actually looking forward to working out since I've definitely been slacking with this pregnancy.  I'd just like to get back to where I was pre-pregnancy!

  • I plan to BF and walk a lot in the early weeks. When I am given the green light to full-on work out, I'll head back to the gym. I miss my Body Pump class so much! I think I am also going to try WW for nursing moms...a friend told me about their program so I might give that a shot.

  • I plan to BF and walk a lot as well as swim/water aerobics at my ILs pool this summer.

One of the biggest things for me will be getting back in to an eating plan that I can live with and once I'm cleared for exercise, adding pilates and weights to walking and swimming.

This is exactly what I plan on doing while I am on maternity leave for 12 weeks.  As soon as my doctor clears me, I'll be doing this around my block with LO & the dog.
