Congestion question

LO has a nasy cold.  I can hear crackling in his throat when he breathes.  He keeps coughing/trying to vomit up phlegm.  However, he has clear breath sounds throughout both his lungs.  I'm guessing it's just all in his throat and nose.  What can I do to help him?
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

Re: Congestion question

  • vicks baby rub, warm bath, or have him hang out in the bathroom while you shower to get the steam.  humidifyer, beyond that, i dont know what to do, either.  my LO sounds congested and has had a runny nose for days, too. ugh.

  • We had been using a vaporizer with vicks steam stuff for night time and naps. But we took him to the pedi today and turns out the congestion led to a double ear infection

  • It also helps to keep them a bit elevated while sleeping. I fold a thick blanket and put it under the crib matress, so the matress is propped up a bit but it doesn't put anything extra in the crib itself.

Really?  How long did his congestion last before you took him to the pedi?

Actually if they are sick for a short amount of time eyes/nose/throat, it is very common to get ear infections practically overnight. My DS had croup and his breathing was horrible! Every other day we were at the pedi's or the ER. The 3rd time we went in to the pedi he had a double ear infection and had just had his ears checked 36 hrs prior and they were fine. It's pretty common and my DS was playing and acting normal and never once pulled on his ears. I was so happy my pedi caught it.
