Beach Vacation Ideas - NBR

Anyone planning on taking a vacation this summer?  We'd like to take DD to the beach for a few days, but aren't sure of where to go.  Any ideas or suggestions?

  • We are going to VA beach in July, and we have never been there. We have been to OBX, Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach in the past highly recommend OBX. I really want to go to Cape Cod but VA Beach is closer and more in our price range for this year.

eta: I forgot to say that we just went to VA beach this weekend and will likely  go back this summer. SO has family there.

  • We're doing OBX, too, in June. DH's 'other mother' (and 'father') moved there from NYC, and have a house on the water. We'll be staying with them, and cannot wait!

We've been several times in the past, pre-kids (and when it was just their winter place, so we had the house to ourselves!), and in 2009 with DD1. We also like Connecticut, and are looking forward to taking the kids to Mystic. We love the seaport, village and aquarium there.

  • We have a beach house in South Myrtle Beach, so we go there all the time.  South Myrtle is great (towards Surfside/Murrells Inlet) because it is pretty quiet and a lot less congested than downtown Myrtle and North Myrtle.  As for our big vacation this year...we are headed to the Bahamas for our family getaway.  Flights into Nassau are super cheap ($200 per person) and we are renting a house through homeaway.com for less than $900 for the week and it is right on the beach!  We can't wait!

  • We rented on the beach in Gulf Shores a few years ago and loved it. We also went to Boca last year and liked it. This year we are looking at Clearwater, FL

  • Sounds like you are on the East coast? I don't have any suggestions for that side of the country, but if you are looking for West coast ideas, I have tons :) There are the San Juan Islands in Washington, Ocean Shores and Long Beach. Seaside/Hay stack rock in Oregon, or Redondo Beach, San Diego for California. They are all great beaches! The San Juans are awesome. You can island hop and take the ferry or a small plane and there is tons to do outside.
