Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I need some perspective on this ladies

I am getting new floors and my house is all in disaray and very dirty with dust etc. My dd and I are staying at my parents house while this is happening.

My dh is staying at our house becuase of lack of space at my parents.

Last night my parents went out to eat with friends. My dh wanted to stay with us until they get back since they are in such a dark place. My parents said they would be back way before 12 am.

Well 12:30 came and dh had to come home and get some sleep for work. He had to leave. I called parents and asked them where they were. Since they were not on their way home. I told them I would turn on the alarm to Stay and NOT instant so they had 30 sec to turn it off when they got home.

Well 2:15 the house phone rings........we can't come in becuase YOU turned on the alarm.... WHAT???? I told them to come in and dad was yelling no it will go off. Finally I just hung up and I am guessing they came in and everything was fine.

Now this morning when I had to leave to meet the workers at my house I had to wake mom up becuase she is watching dd and she was just started to get up and needed to eat etc.

Boy was my mom PISSED off. How dare I call her and turn on their alarm. She said I didn't pay her bills etc.

All I asked was for them to call and let us know they were going to be later than they thought so DH could go home. I told her that if the rolls were reversed they would be pissed to.

Am I wrong becuase I thought it would have been nice to get a phone call and then I could have explained about the alarm becuase apparently becuase I called them she didn't "hear" me tell her about the alarm.

Am I wrong?

Its not really a BIG deal but she was so mean this morning saying everything was MY fault.

  • P.S. I don't think it was anyone's fault but a bit of curtious (sp?) about the whole situation would have been nice.

  • i dont think it's a big deal that you turned it on at all, especially since you called to tell them.

  • Were they drunk?  It seems like either there is missing information or everyone is overreacting in this story.

I wish I could say they were drunk, it would explain a lot. However, they were NOT.

They are in their 60's. They were at a friends house.

Trust me I was to pass out earlier than you at like 8

  • Sounds like she didn't get enough sleep (her own fault) and was super grumpy this morning because of it.  They said they'd be home way before midnight but didn't get home until well after 2 - that is inconsiderate BUT it's their house and they're adults and that's undoubtedly how they see it.  I'd be ticked off too if I were you, but I'd be willing to bet they don't see it the way you do and probably won't.  Hopefully you'll get to be back in your own home sooner than later!

Seriously, there's some WAY overreacting going on on your parents part!

    1) Why can't they come in their own home even if the alarm is on?  Don't they set it when they are out, when you're NOT there?  Don't they have the code to it?  What the heck is the issue?

    2) Whether you pay the bills or not, you have the right to feel safe, so if you felt you needed to set the alarm because they were not home and you wanted the extra safety/security, you have that right.  They are your parents, they should WANT you and your child to be safe in their home!

    3) To tell someone "I'll be home no later than midnight" and then proceed to stay out until 2:15 without so much as a phone call is rude.  You could've been at home, worried sick that your parents were in an accident or something.
