Babies: 9 - 12 Months

EBFers - when will/did you wean your LO?

I'm not sure either of us is ready yet but I want to at least think about it. Thoughts? Thanks!

  • If he hasn't weaned himself by the time he starts pre-school; I will likely wean him then.

  • DD1 - 10.5 mo, DD2 - 14 mo, DD3 - trying to by 13 mo!!!

  • I want to stop pumping at work around a year.  We will probably continue to nurse at bedtime and mornings for a while.

  • I'm hoping to drop down to maybe 1 nursing session between 12-13 months (currently 9 months and 3-4 nursing sessions/day). I'm not sure when I'm totally done but hoping that she takes the lead!

I was working with DS, pumping in am & @ lunch, only nursing at night. I stopped pumping at 1yr and stopped nursing at 18 months

  • I definitely want to make it to a year, but I am expecting we still won't be ready to wean at that point (DD is slow to eat solids). I will probably wean by 18 months or two years so we can TTC #2.

  • We will start weaning at one year and I would like to be done by 13 months or sooner, but it may be slow going since we nurse to sleep.

  • I stopped pumping when DD was a year and offered cow's milk with meals and at times when I would have used expressed milk.  She nursed until she was 16 months (morning and before nap).  She weaned when I left on a trip for a few days (I pumped while I was away, but she didn't ask when I got back).

DS has cared very little about nursing since he was about 6.5 months old so I pump *a lot* for him.  I take advantage of the times that he's sleepy to nurse or offer expressed milk.  In the last few weeks I've started offering cow's milk with meals (he's 11+ months).  I will stop pumping when he's a year and I expect he will wean fairly quickly, though he may want to nurse before nap for a while.

(well, and technically since starting solid food, they have been "weaning")

  • I'd like to be done pumping by 2 and down to one session a day by 18 months.  I'd like to start ttc when ds is 2, so hopefully he'll self wean by that point or when I'm pregnant.

  • I am just starting to think about this too. I hate the thought of her weaning , but I do want to get pregnant soon. I'll likely wean or mostly wean at 1, but I think I will end up just following her lead. So I guess I'm not really sure yet! lol

  • I plan to wean at a year and be completely done by 13 months.

  • We started weaning at 7.5 months and were done by 9. I had a week long trip away at 7.5 months so that started it and my supply dropped quickly. I felt liberated for about a week but now I regret stopping, fwiw.
  • I'm planning to let DS self-wean so we'll probably be done sometime between 1 and 2.

  • I was planning on taking a laidback approach and just adding cow's milk and getting down to 2-3 nursing sessions at 1 year. But I may end up being away from her for about a week when she's 12.5 months old, so I'm thinking that alone will force the weaning issue :(

I was actually logging on here to get tips for how to still keep her interested in nursing after being away from me that long...

    This is us too.

He's already somewhat losing interest in the daytime nursing on the weekends, so we'll see.  I pump 2x at work & plan to go down to 1x when he hits a year or thereabouts & then cut it out completely over the course of a couple weeks..  I don't want to put whole milk in a bottle, so I want to make sure he drinks a sippy well and not just for fun.

So, clearly, while I have the basics down, the technical logistics are currently harder to figure out.  As with all things, in the end I'll just go with the flow.
