Mexico right now???? Resort towns, not border towns.

I know there is a lot going on down there, but I love Mexico and it is where I want to get married. My g-ma (who watches WAY too much Fox News) thinks it is too dangerous and that we should do it somewhere else. So...

My Mexican friends aren't even traveling to Mexico right now if that tells you anything.

Well, we went last year.  Let me just tell you that being in a store when the Federales come in & lock the place down so they can grab food = crazy scary!  And the guys outside the front door with HUGEASSGUNS are a wee bit intimidating. 

That being said, if you were at a resort & never left, you;d be fine.  That would also be boring as heck!  We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon & the Carribeans are just as lovely, honest.

Yeah, no. Never going to Mexico.

My husband's highschool teacher was shot in the head for a DISPOSABLE camera. 

My good friend asked a girl where a bank machine was, she showed him and then followed him and said 'give me money, I showed you where it was'. He told her to Eff off and she called over a police man who 'happened' to be right there and she told them he sexually assulted her. They held him and his friend in a truck until they gave them all their money. The police and this woman were a con team. 

And my good friend's friend was shot in the head. He was down there to build bike trails and was in an SUV, and I guess those are popular with drug people, because they wanted it, so they killed him.

 

I know people have a lot of good times there, but the people I know didn't. And it seems like we hear all these stories of Canadians honeymooning in Mexico and get shot for some reason or another. So I'm good here, thanks

I would not travel to Mexico right now. It used to be border towns that were dangerous, but it seems to be spilling over into inner Mexico and resort towns.

It breaks my heart, really, how bad things have gotten there. I spent a semester in Mexico in college, and it was amazing. Beautiful country with so much history, and really lovely people. So sad =(

We HMed at Dreams Resort in Los Cabos & it was awesome...except for the part where a guy tried to kidnap me at the airport when we first got there.

MH & I split up to try & find our car service to the resort. Some guy approached me saying he could take me where I needed to go & started to take my itinerary papers out of my hands.

MH saw & came over. The guy says, "oh, you're with him? Never mind". Hands me back my papers & jets.

I say to MH, "Ummm, I think I just almost got kidnapped"

I meant this.  The resorts are fine, but Mexico is a bit scary and dirty for my taste.  I would rather be somewhere that the ocean is clean and I can drink the water.

DH and I have been to mexico more than several times in the last few years and while a lot of it can be beautiful we were more concerned for our safety every time we went. Jamaica as well. However we have never been "resort people" so that could be where our problem lies. We like culture and authentic food. Not touristy things.
