I think I keep him up too long sometimes (90-120 min before starting to get him to sleep) and he just FIGHTS it!! He cries to sleep whether I hold him or not. Not for long, but still...
I just tried getting him to sleep after an hour awake time and it went better! Still cried, but not as bad.
Re: how long is your LO up at a time?
often he's up 4 hrs at a time. It's horrible. He falls asleep eating, but then he wakes up when I put him in the crib. I try lots of things to no avail. Usually the 4th try it works.
But...he's sleeping longer at night, which is awesome! Last night he slept 9:30-3:30 and again 4:15-7:00!
ETA: he was up 7-10:45am today. I tried to put him down 4 times at different times in the morning. He then slept for 45 minutes. I was so pissed it wasn't longer, but I fed him and he went to sleep again, which he is now. So hopefully this will be a real nap!

This. when he starts to seem tired (gets fussy, yawns, his eyes get tired, etc) I immediately swaddle, give him a binky, & put him in his crib. He usually falls asleep before I even finish the swaddle. Sometimes I'll put him in his swing, and he'll fall asleep there.
Usually an hour, 2 at the MOST.
I usually watch her cues. She will yawn then rub her eye. When grabs on to her ear I know it's time to pick her up and try to get her to sleep. If I wait too long she fights it tooth an nail and takes a crappy nap and wakes up pissed. If I time it right she's nap a little longer. If she doesn't sleep longer she at least wakes up in a good mood.
