August 2011 Moms

2nd time moms with completely different pregnancies than 1st?

With my son:

morning sickness only when I saw raw meat

tired only during 1st trimester

hair was thick, full, and shiny

this pregnancy:

morning sickness 24/7 and still here and there now

still going to bed at 8:30

hair is dull, flaky scalp, and falling out like wild fire

I think it's a girl. What are your experiences, what do you think? :)

Re: 2nd time moms with completely different pregnancies than 1st?

  • Well I will tell you this

First pregnancy:   No m/s whatsoever, only a little tired at the beginning, hair looked great, always felt great, no weight loss, no loss of appetite, and I carried all out front.

This one:  Tons of m/s, lost weight, scalp is dry and flakey, still exhausted most of the time, no appetite, and I got love handles.

I have had two totally different pregnancies and we are having our second boy.

  • It's just crazy how pregnancies can be so different. We will hopefully find out in a couple of weeks. Another note, first carried very low and this one is nearing chest height.   :)

  • With DD:

Very infrequent morning sickness which was gone in 2nd tri.  Active, not too tired, great mood - didn't really look pregnant until later

    With this one:

BAD morning sickness that is still around.  Exhausted and have a hard time walking up a couple flights of stairs. I'm obviously pregnant - I swear I'm already bigger than I was at 9 months with my daughter even though I've only gained a couple pounds.

So everyone is predicting it's a boy :)

  • Haven't found out yet, only 17 weeks, but

    With DS:

    -head full of great hair

    -body full of hair

-cravings of pizza, hot dogs, bbq, potato salad, lemonade

    -carried low

     This time:

-everything I craved with DS makes me sick

-hair looks horrible and does nothing

    -am already carrying high

I believe I am having a girl as well.

  • First pregnancy was a boy-

Got sick twice a day everyday, but never felt bad! Just randomly would barf, lol

    Not sure exhausted

    Great hair, skin, and nails

Carried super low... I have stretch marks on my ho-ha!

    This pregnancy is a girl-

Only puked once, but felt awful and ill all day everyday until about 14 weeks

Carrying really high and can barely ever breath

    Exhausted constantly

Hair, nails and skin totally suck!!!

  • With DS:

    Barfed every.single.day

Gained weight like NOBODY'S business (65 lbs total)

    This time:

Threw up once (initiated by shoving toothbrush too far down my throat on accident)

I've gained 4 lbs.  (my med records show 24 lbs weight gain this time last preg)

I'll find out tomorrow.  DH says girl, I have NO clue whatsoever!!

    Cravings: gravy!

    This one:

Hair & nails looks like crap, normal growth

M/S a couple times, and nauseous irregularly

    Cravings: anything sweet!

  • Both pregnancies have been very much the same for me: I have had very mild nausea, and a little bit of fatigue - but no true "morning sickness".  I'm ALWAYS hungry, just like last time... though I'm putting on weight a little bit faster.  Maybe because I'm older? Or just eating more :)

    Both babies are boys :)

  • With both my boys I had an easy pregnancy. No m/s, no aversions, felt great. This time I've been sick for 17 weeks, scalp is super dry, and breakouts on my face which I never had, and I am super moody which is completely out of character. We'll see April 8.
  • Night and day for me as well

1st: gained weight like it was my job, never sick at all, hair grew really nice, had nice nails, no aversions to anything

2nd (this one): lost 20 pounds and have only gained 1 pound back, hyperemesis and sick day and night with no sign of letting up.  Hair, skin, and nails are disgusting look awful and breaking all the time.  Aversions to pretty much all food.  DS just said that he wanted fish sticks for dinner and just the thought of it made me vomit.

I was convinced this baby had to be a girl, but it is another boy!

I had the EXACT same experience as you and we're having another boy. When I saw his baby dude parts I made the ultrasound lady show me again. Then I asked her if she was 100%. I was sure she was wrong, ha. But, nope little man #2 is on the way. Good luck :)

  • Mine are completely different, but I won't know the sex of baby #2 until the 28th.

    1st Pregnancy with DS:

Craved- Anything hot and spicy. The hotter, the better! I also LOVED meat and Mexican food.

    Aversions- Olives, carrots, and milk.

Appearance- My hair was thick and shiny...very pretty! Nails strong, and the hair on my legs grew REALLY fast. Perfect skin. Belly all out front.

Morning Sickness- Lasted from 6 weeks to 11 weeks, but was light. Mainly at nighttime.

    This Pregnancy:

Craving- Dairy, sweets, salad and pasta.

Aversions- Anything hot or spicy (even something as mild as an onion). Red meat, too.

Appearance- My hair is AWFUL! Greasy and dull. Nails brittle, and the hair on my legs grows snail slow. Bad acne. Belly spread out a bit, but up higher.

Morning Sickness- Lasted from 6 weeks to 15 weeks all day long, stopped, then came back lightly at 17 weeks.

  • First Pregnancy: gained 15+ pounds in the first trimester and 45 pounds overall, no morning sickness or nausea, really bad asthma (had to take steroid medication through a nebulizer two times a day), carried all over

Second Pregnancy: no morning sickness but awful nausea for a couple weeks, only gained 6 pounds in first trimester, asthma has actually improved, carrying high and out front

The first was a girl - we don't know what this one is. The doctor is guessing boy because of the way my asthma has reacted to the pregnancy. We'll see!

  • With DS I had no morning sickness, felt great my entire pregnancy, never tired, no heartburn/acid reflux and carried very low.  I did have a decent amount of swelling and high BP at the end with him, though.  Also, I didn't have to shave very often because my hair grew in so slow and the hair on my head was thick and shiny.

This pregnancy I am shedding constantly, I have to shave every day, I have had m/s from day one, carrying higher, tired all the time, have bad skin (which I didn't wit DS), and it is like night and day.

We are having a girl this time.

  • Everything seems about the same for me, but my "morning" sickness was 20 times worse this time around. The tech guessed girl for us again, so that gives us two!
    DD #1 4 years old (09/22/09)
    DD #2 2 years old (08/17/11)

  • I was really nauseous the entire first pregnancy with DD.

This time around the nausea was extremely mild.  I thought maybe that meant it would be a boy, but nope, another girl!

  • one of my closest friends had 2 pregnancies that could not have been more different. Polar opposites in every single possible way.

She's the proud mom of 2 girls.
