We went for their 9 month well-baby visit today, and as always, I seek out you ladies for advice!
1. Our pedi suggested putting their formula in their sippies for a few feedings during the day, and to just do a bottle for nighttime, starting now. Thoughts on this?
2. She also suggested offering solids now before liquids (formula or BM, I do both). Do you do this? Has it affected their liquid intake?
3. Can you just share your general feeding timeline for the day?
Thanks!!!
Re: Some ?s about 9 month olds
E and Z are 9 months old today
We have our well-baby visit next Weds so it will be interesting if our pedi gives the same advice.
1. Do your LOs drink out of sippies yet? I haven't even tried sippies yet. Should I be doing this? Yikes. Why do I feel so behind all the time.
2. For breakfast I give them oatmeal/applesauce before their first bottle of the day. It doesn't usually go that well b/c they just want their bottle. I feed them lunch at around 11:45 and they eat around 6 or so oz of purees each. Then they take a whole bottle an hour later before their 1pm nap. I don't really do dinner yet. I work 5 to 9 and DH is in charge and he doesn't like feeding them real food (nice, huh?).
3. 6:45 - 3oz oatmeal/fruit + ~ 6oz bottle
8:45 6-7 oz bottle
9am - nap
11:45 - lunch - 6 to 7 oz stage 2/3 baby food.
12:45 - 7 oz bottle
1pm - nap
3:30 - 7 oz bottle
DH takes them to his gym from 4:30-6:30 and I think they give them a bottle around 5:30???
7:30 - bedtime bottle (usually they don't finish it)
I'm trying to explain to DH that at some point they need to eating dinner instead of drinking a bottle. We will see what pedi says next week.
Happy 9 Month Birthday!
Let me know how your pedi visit goes, I'm interested to see how they compare!
I hope you receive more responses. I'm curious others response to #2. We had our 9 mo visit on Wed and E and G are struggling with their weights. G is falling from her growth curve. My plan right now is to skip the sippy cup and go to straw drinking in the next few months and wean the breast, but I think they take more from breast.
Here's our current schedule:
7am bf
8 breakfast fruit and cereal
9 nap
10:45/11 bf
12 lunch veggies
1:00 nap
2:30/2:45 bottle (they only drink 4 ounces)
4:00/4:30 dinner meat and veggies, finger feeding
5:45/6:00 bf and asleep by 6:15 or 6:30
My boys are now almost a year but I remember my 9 month visit so I will tell you that mine went pretty differently. I asked about sippy cups and my pedi said to start introducing it and getting them used to it but she didn't want me to replace the bottle with it, she said that could wait for a year.
We also were told to start 3 meals of solids a day (we were only doing 2 before that) but she didn't say that we had to do them before the bottle. However, my boys are like vaccuums and will eat whatever I put in front of them so possibly she wasn't concerned with that?? Also, when we moved up to 3 meals a day, my boys definitely decreased on their formula intake. They were taking 7.5 ounces each bottle and now we are lucky if they take 6 oz at a feeding, they usually just take 4. That's with them usually getting solids after a bottle so I would think it could definitely impact their intake if they had solids before.
I should say though, my boys are 32 weekers so I'm sure that played into what she wanted us to do in some respects. I think every doctor is different though. I hope that helps some.
