Cloth Diapering

Umm..can you just put a MF insert in a cover? ::flinches::

Is that the world's stupidest question ever?  Is it totally dumb to even try that?

I'm guessing you're going to tell me that if I don't want to futz with folding a PF, I should just buy a fitted.  As a cheapskate, I'm wondering if I can't just use the eleventy billion microfiber inserts I already have instead of a prefold...

WDYT?

  • It's not a dumb question, but NO you can't.  The microfiber is really irritating and dries out a baby's skin.  In no circumstance should you let the microfiber touch bare skin.
  • I have seem BG sleeves for MF that would allow you to just use them in a cover.  You could also lay something on top (fleece) but I would be worried that it would shift and expose the baby's skin to MF.

  • You can, however, tri-fold a prefold and lay it in the diaper cover like you were thinking of doing with an insert...  I haz no baby yet, but I know this is often done. See pics in link:

  • I know alot of people use fleece for a stay-dry insert.  Fleece isn't irritating to the skin like MF is.  Not a dumb question at all.

  • Buy a package of CHEAP flats! Wrap up the insert and place in the diaper! Works beautifully unless LO has messy poop. That is the problem I can't figure out. Works the same was as FLIP or Thirsties AI2. I don't know what I'm doing wrong to keep getting poo on the cover.

  • YIKES!! I didn't know it was bad to put MF on LO's heiny! {hangs head feeling like an awful mama} I have been doing it!  Luckily, LO hasn't shown any irritation or frustration, but it's good to know now while we are just starting out! Guess I am going to have to switch things up!  Thanks for the info ladies!
  • Sometimes we'll take a mf insert and wrap it with a prefold and lay that in the cover...
