This is our first child and we do not know the sex of the baby. We are having a hard time narrowing down the names. Let me know what your favorites are from the lists below. I am open to suggestions on middle names.
I love your boy names especially Finn and Quinn. I also really like Oliver and Carter so I can't choose between the two. For the girls I think my favorite is Sophie. I want to like Charlotte but hate the nn Charlie.

Boys:
Cohen Reese
Finn Carter
Dylan Cole
Quinn Oliver
Girls
Charlotte Alise
Sophie Claire
Carly Rose
Lillian Paige
My faves: Cohen (depending on your last name ... second choice is Dylan) and Lillian.
I LOVE Lillian, and I think Lillian Paige sounds great. Your boys names are all rather similar, so I guess I'd vote Finn or Quinn. Would you use a full name like Finnian or Phineas? You can use Quentin and still use the name Quinn.
Oh, and don't use Cohen if you're not Jewish.
I read the article about the name Cohen, but I guess stuff like that doesn't bother me. I think people can get offended by anything these days. And honestly I don't think a lot of people would even get why Cohen could be offensive unless someone pointed it out to them. Just my opinion though.
For the boys, I like Cohen, Finn and Quinn. For the girls, I like Charlotte, Sophie and Lillian. Nice names!

It may be your opinion, but it will be your child who will have to live with a name that many people find disrespectful.
Maybe you live somewhere where not many people would be offended by your disrespect, but I assure you that that is not the case everywhere.

I apologize if I seem disrespectful. I am not trying to be. From what I have found from researching the internet (which I know you can't believe everything you read) some Jewish people find it offensive whereas others couldn't care less if someone uses the name. I guess if I use the name, I will at least be prepared for the occasional glare or comment. I think because more and more surnames are becoming popular first names, you will see the name Cohen a lot more and maybe that will cause it to be less offensive, or maybe not. I understand I am not Jewish so I cannot relate. I'm just one of those people that does not get offended by things easily. I will definitely think more on it though.
Quinn is rising with the girl unisex trend and nms.
Girls:
Charlotte and Lillian are my faves out of your picks:cute nn potential: Charli/Char/or even Carly. Lily as a nn for Lillian is cute. My little cousin is Lillian Joyce.
Sophie nms, and Carly looks like a nn for something. Love all of your MN's!

Are you kidding me? You are not Jewish, you can not judge how Jewish people would feel about some rando naming their kid Cohen. It is REALLY disrespectful.

I never said I was judging. I just said I READ comments on other message boards where some people (who said they were Jewish) were not offended. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way.
This is why I firmly believe that if one looks outside of their own ethnicity/heritage/religion for a name (which I'm sure we all do to a certain extent, even if just for fun) that they research the meaning of the name itself and its significance within that religion or culture. Using a name like Cohen, as a FIRST name, when you are not Jewish is just so full of wrong.
It's like naming your daughter Jesus when you are a non-Christian. *shudder*

I am a Christian and went to Catholic school for 8 years. I actually would not be offended if anyone decided to name their son OR daughter Jesus. To me, it is just a name. It's Jesus Christ, the man and the son of God, that is more than a name. Just because someone uses the name Jesus, it isn't going to lesson anything about my religion. Now, of course I believe their are some Christians that would be offended. It just goes to show that everyone has their own opinion about what is offensive and what is not. I appreciate you sharing yours with me and at least now I know what the consequences behind naming a child Cohen are. I would not have known otherwise. Thanks.
Very much so. I seriously never thought to look up the meaning behind the name until today. It's definitely going to make me think more about names though.

I don't think Cohen is as "recognizably religious" as Jesus is. I saw the name Cohen a while back and thought "that's a cute name". I would've NEVER known it was religious until I looked it up on babynames.com (for example) and saw:
The meaning of the name Cohen is Priest
The origin of the name Cohen is Hebrew
I would've never known the controversy surrounding it b/c I wouldn't have thought to google "controversy surrounding Cohen by nonJews" nor do I know any Jews. Not making any excuses on being offensive but I don't think anyone would intentionally mean to use this name to be disrespectful. Not everyone is a name geek so it would be hard for them to not know the history/significance of not using it.
i also would not use the name cohen for the reasons posted but i wouldn't equate it to using the name jesus. jesus is significant in other religions but cohen is specific to the jewish people.

The reason they aren't offended is because they can't help that non-Jews are ignorant of Jewish culture and therefore can't hold them to the same standard. It's kind of like, "Aw *pats head* you just didn't know better." I can promise you that Jewish people do not name their kid Cohen, because of its sacred meaning. And I personally would not have the balls to possibly insult a 5000+ year old religion with my choice of name where there are thousands of other non-offensive names to choose from.

Cohen Reese: Before you use this name, make sure you read at least one of the articles about why some people find it offensive/disrespectful.

Dylan Cole: perfectly nice
Quinn Oliver: Love Oliver, not so much Quinn.
Charlotte Alisa: fine
Sophie Claire: inoffensive
Carly Rose:
maybe Carly as nn - Caroline?
Lillian Paige: Love Lillian, not so much Paige.
If I named your child, he/she would be Finn Oliver or Lillian Claire.
