first, thanks for the bday wishes : )
second, please talk to me about hypothyroidism ...
i am convinced that i have hashimoto's (autoimmune hypo) based on symptoms, and the fact that i have 3 other autoimmunes that highly correlate with hashimoto's. most of my tests are normal tho, and i'm seeing a thyroid specialist next week. anyway, was wondering if you had any troubles getting a dx or tx? or was your case obvious? even though hypo has negative impact on fertility, i'm sure my issues are just related to age ... but i would still like to consider tx if it would help with some of my symptoms. anyway, i would appreciate anything you would be willing to share. tia.
Re: *** mtlaurel ***
I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but here goes. I had TSH levels come back in the high, but "normal" range in two rounds of basic BW. I don't remember the numbers exactly, except to say around 5. My RE likes to see numbers around 1 or 2 for trying to conceive. So, he prescribed a very low dose of Levothyroxine, and wants to re-test TSH in 6 weeks.
I wasn't aware of any symptoms and was quite taken aback by the dx. Reading more about it, though, I'm wondering whether hypo has contributed to my short LPs (9-11 day), and some of what I have figured is just part of getting old, like tiring out more easily and joint achiness. (Yes, I'm hoping these pills are my fountain of youth!) I have started tx, but still have questions for the RE when I see him next.
Are your tests showing "normal" according to a lab? If so, it is possible that your levels are not optimal for fertility. Good luck with the thryoid specialist and please keep me posted, as I'm still learning about this.

thanks for the reply.
my last tsh was like 1.06 or something ... totally normal and optimal for conception. my thyroid antibody test was within 'normal' range ... but ... the presence of antibodies in someone with all my other autoimmunes is worth investigating. i'm hoping to get a low dose of meds ... and maybe that will help with my short LP ... but really, i'm more concerned about the other symptoms at this point.
i'll keep you posted as i learn more. please share any new info you get ...
Hi there!
I am new, so I apologize in advance if some of my formatting is incorrect, etc. I also hope you don't mind me posting here before proper introductions. This topic is just of specific interest to me and I've done lots of research (way too much as a matter of fact) on the topic.
I also have lots of questions about the hypothyroidism dx. I was diagnosed "sub-clinical hypothyroid" in Jan. and have since been on 25 mg and now 50 mg Levothyroxine. Before, the TSH level was between 6 and 13. Since treatment, it has been around 5.5. I know the ideal for ttc is between 1 and 3. I had to really push my doc. to up it to 50mg. But I will see an RE next week and talk to her more in depth about it.
What is interesting is that I also have a short luteal phase (9-11 days) and I know this can be due to hypothyroidism. I've looked all over the web and can't find out why. Does anyone know why this is?
I also have low vit. D which is also related.
Finally, I was wondering about the linkage between FSH and high TSH. Once I started treating the TSH, the FSH also went down (from 10.2 to 8.4). Does anyone know anything about this relationship?
I know, lots of questions... This TTC process has made me research the heck out of every last bit of information I get from the docs!
Thanks ladies!

i've heard about the short LP due to thyroid issues (mine are 9-11 as well) ... but i don't know why???
i have low vit. D too!!! also deficient in vit. B12 ... but that is a different autoimmune.
i haven't come across any info about thyroid and fsh ... that would be interesting to read up on.
gosh ... it's bad enough we don't have age in our favor, but to have these funky things happening too!! not fair ::::stomping my foot like a 5 year old:::::
Yes!!! I stomp my feet A LOT as well!
I've read that the fsh is also related to the tsh because the pituitary and the thyroid are linked. But honestly, I cannot understand the data beyond a certain basic level since I am not in the sciences in any way.
I will ask the RE about all of this next week when I see her, and give an update of what she explains.
I've also thought of seeing a thyroid specialist because the primary care docs do not seem to have a tremendous amount of expertise in the thyroid areas. Good luck with that!

Solar, thanks for the info. on the connection between FSH and TSH. I was unaware of that. I'm waiting for CD3 to test my FSH again. I have read about the connection between TSH and LPD, but I'm not sure why and also am trying to find out more about that.
Has your LP lengthened since being on Levo.?

Hi Mt.!
Yes, there is little info. out there on the connection btwn. fsh and tsh but I did find some. I am SO curious to see what the RE has to say about it next week. My FSH did go down when I started taking Levo., but my LP has not lengthened yet. I am waiting to see this month. Today is 10dpo and I have lower temps yesterday and horrible pms so I know AF is a coming. I'll be curious to see if the LP has lengthened yet but I think it takes a few months for the Levo to kick in (sucks). I've never made it past an 11 day LP. I'm also working on the short lp with the acupuncturist but it didn't work (last month only had a 10 day LP).
Let's keep each other posted!

I've also never made it past an 11 day LP. I wanted to push the issue with the RE and ask about progesterone supplements, even though my 7DPO progesterone level is high - 20 something. But, the TSH levels came up. And, since we're on hold right now waiting for a uro. consult, I figured I'd see if the Levo. helps on its own first. We'll see what next cycle brings.
Please do keep me posted, solar and jordan.

i've only had an lp greater than 11 days 3 times ... first, pg with my son, second, cp and third was taking progesterone (which can lengthen the lp)
i'm really excited to see the thyroid specialist on monday. i really hope she is cool and that we can work together ...
