what can i expect from my first appointment with the specialist? it turns out that my nurse?practitioner?that i've gone to for my annual is the office's specialist for infertility.
a little background, i've been off the pill 2 years, my cycles are regular, but?i do get some spotting after my period.??we've tried with CBEFM and charting on and off for a year. DH has asthma, but other than that we are in good health.
Re: sorry this is probably asked a million times here...
You should expect testing. CD3 bloodwork to check hormone levels, and HSG to make sure you do not have blocked tubes, and an ultrasound to check for cysts on your ovaries. Your H will need a sperm analysis. Please be sure all testing is done before any type of treatment plan is made.
Good luck.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I got two opinions -
1st mtg at 1st RE - we reviewed all my medical history (some testing already done years ago) and talked about the results and what those truly mean (I was giving misleading info after the tests). We talked about possible scenarios, possible treatment plans, he answered all of our many questions and put MH at ease. Then we met with a nurse who set me up for b/w and a hormone level check. We had a 2nd mtg with RE to discuss IVF and now we go at the end of the month for our IVF Consult appt where we learn ALL about IVF, shots, payment plans, etc.
1st mtg w/ 2nd RE (2nd opinion) -
We never saw the RE, we met with a nurse and a PA. They did a vaginal ultrasound, measured my uterus, etc. printed like 10 ultrasound pics. Talked about my medical history and reviewed records fr previous IF tests. Talked about my options (none other than IVF), and they handed DH a cup for a SA and told us to make an appt with another office. The appts were very similar, although I had an ultrasound at one and not the other on the 1st day and we met with the RE immediatly at the 1st place and felt like we were part of the family with all the nurses. We're going with #1.
