does their "months" age go by the day they were born as it arrives every month - i.e. my kids were born on the 12th, so every month on the 12th day are they a "month older" or does it go by weeks, i.e. 8 weeks = 2 months, 12 weeks = 3 months, etc.?
I'm pretty sure I just quit counting in weeks around week 12 for this very reason. Once they were three months old, that was just easier to say than how many weeks they were.

I always did it by the day of the month. The 4 weeks = 1 month thing always bothered me because it's not accurate. (I'm anal retentive in some ways. heh.)

This, exactly! and mine were 7w premature so I just round up to an "adjusted age" of -2 months if people comment that they are little.

This.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
It definitely goes by the date they were born; four weeks is shorter than a month (unless it's February in non-Leap Year ). Otherwise you'll be really off by the time they're five months old or so! So like my boys were born on January 6, so on the 6th of each month I would take their "month" photos.
ETA: And ditto peakay. You'll also find your ticker disagrees with you if you go by 4 weeks=1 month.

Totally this - the 4 weeks thing always bothered me. We go by the 16th of each month.
Re: stupid question about baby age
In my book the months change on the date.
So every month on the 27th, the boys turn a month older.
Every Tuesday, they turn another week older (I think we are in the 30s now?).
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
How to tell my boys apart
