Did your babies switch positions?

Like if one was on the right side and the other was on the left, did they ever totally switch sides?

I've had two u/s so far - at 10w and at 13w - and both times, they were on either side of my ute.  My doctor says they could totally move around and switch sides.  But when I asked the u/s tech, she said they will stay on their own sides throughout the pregnancy.  They are are in seperate sacs, each with their own placenta, if that makes a difference.  I'm just curious.  TIA!

    Whats mo/di?

  • My Baby A went from breech to vertex at 37 weeks, and my Baby B eventually took the first out position, but A was on my right and B was on my left the entire time.
  • I don't think they can switch sides if they're on the right and left sides. Their placenta isn't going to move, and they can really only move within their gestational sac. if they turn transverse within their sacs, i suppose it could seem like they're switching sides, but i don't know if they have that much room.

mo/di twins (or mo/tri triplets like i had) have a little more freedom to move (because there's only one placenta) but even they generally stay in the same spot. (like for me, a was always on the bottom left, b was on the bottom right, and c was on top, but sometimes c would lay between them, and sometimes he'd lay on top of them.

  • I had di/di twins as well. A was always on the right, b on the left. My dr and u/s techs never said anything about them possibly switching positions.  I'm not sure how they would have, really; that seems logistically impossible (or at least not without me feeling it! ;))

  • A has been on the left and B on the right my entire pregnancy, but sometimes B is closer to the cervix.

  • My kids always stayed on their own side but they would flip around on that side.  Sometimes they'd be breech, sometimes vertex, sometimes transverse; but DD was always on my right, and DS was always on my left.

    baby a- left...head down

sometimes they were horizontal and when they were,

baby a was on the bottom head on right

baby b was on top head on left
