I am 14 weeks tomorrow. A few days ago I started getting a cold and now my sinuses are blocked and stuffed up. I don't have a fever and I called the doctor and she suggested a NETI POT. This has helped some, but I'm still feeling terrible. This is my first pregnancy and I'm worried that my sickness and coughing will affect the baby. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions to alleviate the pain or comments regarding how the sickness will affect the baby? Thanks!
Re: Sinus issues
I've been one congested mess since before my BFP. I, too, got a humidifier and have been using a neti pot. Not sure how much it's actually helping, but at least I'm trying something. From all my reading, nasal passages get inflamed during pregnancy because anywhere with mucus does, in order to keep bad bacteria out. Lovely side-effect, but it's keeping our babies healthy!
Hope you feel better soon.
I did that last week. It's pretty normal for me to get that way just as the 2nd tri is about to start. Unfortunately, I didn't find much relief, but I did use saline spray, which loosened things up. I also had water on hand during the night, and I kept my head elevated with an extra pillow. I still have coughing fits, and a runny nose. I think it just comes with the pregnancy. Sensitive and swollen sinuses
You could also try benedryl at this point. It has been around forever and is known as one of the safest drugs you can take when you're pregnant. It can make you drowsy, but if you aren't going anywhere, it's fine, or at night.
The illness won't hurt your baby.
It can't hurt your baby, so don't worry about that.
I've been stuffed up for over a week now and it's getting really old. Vicks works some as do steam showers.. I think for the most part you have to just suffer through it. I'm crossing my fingers that it goes away soon.. Waking up every night at 230 because I can't breath is lame.
If I feel miserable and can't sleep or function, I am all for drugs as long as they're safe for the baby.
Otrivin/Dristan. Just do it. You'll sleep. It will be beautiful.
Recommended dose and only if you need it.
My mum used it through all her pregnancies. My dad's a doctor and has never had an issue with it. The five of us kids are all fine.
