Update to spotting scare & low fetal heart rate

Hello Ladies!  Looks like I might get to stay with you!

So I just rested yesterday per my OB nurse's instructions. For those who didn't see my PP, I started having spotting Saturday and into Sunday. I had gotten my BFP on 2/23/11.  The ER was worried because they thought the heart rate was too low, at 96 bpm for 6 weeks pregnant and said I was at a high risk for MC.  I had my first OB appt / ER follow up this morning.

I really liked their office and everyone in it, which was a huge plus!  They did another US for a heart beat check, and it was up to 115 in just 2 days!  So, the short of it is, everything looks good.  As long as the spotting stays away, hopefully we will be in the clear.  Thanks for all who kept me in your thoughts and prayers.  I know they helped immensely!  Please keep me in thought that I don't have any more spotting and that this is a sticky baby!

Also, I found out that my new office does not routinely do NT scans.  They only do them if the screening BW comes back abnormal.  Does your office do this? I found that to be weird, even if insurance doesn't pay for it, I would like to have the option of paying out of pocket for it simply for my own peace of mind.

Can't wait to get to know everyone here!

  • Great news!

As for the NT.  I had one with my 2nd and have one next Monday.  But I was 36 when I had him and am almost 40 now.

Thanks Ladies!  I appreciate you guys keeping me in your thoughts!  I'm glad I get to stick around.  AbJams, from everything I read, it said under 90 would be considered high risk, so I found their concern odd too.

About the NT scan: the office I was at with DD offered them if you wanted them, with the understanding that you may have to pay out of pocket for it.  Which I was fine with.  Heck, I thought all offices offered it!

My doc "routinely" sends people to have NT scans (California recommends that all OBs carefully tell patients of their genetic testing choices and offer them as possibilities - so most do).  A specialized neonatal person who is certified to do the scan has to do them though, so not all offices can provide.  My OB sends you to the specialist in their network.  Your docs should at least be able to refer you to someone, even if you do have to pay out of pocket.

Great news that everything is looking good!!!  I have been spotting too and have seen a heartbeat, so I know exactly how you feel. I am still spotting a little bit, but my doctor is no longer worried, just asked me to keep an eye on any "change" in the amount/color.

I'm glad everything is looking good for you!  I'll have to ask my office about the NC laws, but in Texas, where I had DD, the sonographer is the one who does the NT scans. The sono tech in my Dr's office did ours...  I do know that California is a little stricter on their imaging laws than most other states.  I am an x-ray tech, and Cali requires two extra liscenses to practice there that both TX and NC do not require.

  • Great news!  I had an NT scan with my son.  It just seemed like it was routine to do it for everyone.
  • I'm so glad that the HB is getting stronger! Lots Of positive vibes coming your way.
