DS weighed 9 lbs 11 oz yesterday at the pedis office. We have the Chicco KeyFit 30's and they are 9 lb 6 oz carriers, so when I am carrying him in his "convenient" infant seat I'm carrying 19+ pounds. He's gaining a little over an ounce a day right now, and growing like a weed, I can't imagine being able to carry him and his sister in the infant seats at the same time soon, but I hate the idea of having to wake them up every time I get in and out of the car. (Although I can't wait to get rid of the DSNG!)
When did you make the push to convertible car seats?
Re: when did you switch to convertible CS's ?
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I didn't convert until 9 months when my DDs were simply getting to look too long for their seats. They were fine to remain in them for weights, but I just felt they'd be able to stretch out more in their convertible seats (and we weren't using the DSNG by that point anyway).
I chose to keep mine in the infant cs through the harsh NY winter last year--being able to just bundle them in the jj cole liners was so much easier than the thought of bundling them in heavy layers and then getting them in and out of the cs.
We switched at home around 7 months, and left the seats at day care until about 9 months.
Still using them at 8+ months, and we'll stay in those until the bitter end! It's so much easier to put them the seat, bundle the seat up, snap it in the car, and carry everyone into daycare at once.
Convertibles would mean I'd have to leave one in the car when I walked into daycare. I'm not quite ready for that. Carrying everything together is almost 60lbs, but I like to think of it as weight training. I don't go to the gym because I get my arm workout two times a day!
Switched them at 8 months because we got their Britax Boulevards for Christmas. It was perfect timing, because they were really starting to hate their Snugrides. They seem much happier in their convertibles.
We switched at 7.5m. Alex was just over 21 lbs and our infant seats went to 22 lbs. (Will didn't hit 22 lbs till he was 13m but it was easier to just switch them both at the the same time.)
Just after 6 months because they're super long and DS was about half an inch from outgrowing the infant seat.
You can always just leave the infant seats in the car instead of carrying them in and out of the house, or wherever, if you don't want to buy convertibles just yet. Then you could still just snap them into the stroller when you use it and wouldn't have to take them out of seats everywhere if you don't want to.
This, exactly. They loved being in the city mini, and wanted OUT of those infant seats.
We did it when the boys were 8 or 9 months old. I held out as long as possible, because the infant seats were so convenient. My arms got really buff, at least.
I think they were about 18 lbs each when we switched.

We're trying to hold out until 1 year. They are getting wayyyy too heavy to carry anymore though, so I've been leaving their Snugride 32s in my car. Now if we could just do without the big bulky winter coats...
I'm hoping convertible CSs will be a birthday gift from someone.
