XP: If your DC has food allergies, help...

DS has a rash on his chest that just showed up over the past couple days and his bottom after BM's.  He's going to the doc in a week for his 12 month checkup....  Also, we are still breastfeeding, so if you did an elimination diet for yourself how did you do this?  Do I eliminate one allergenic food every couple days to see if this helps clear up his problem?  I'm looking for a place to start on my own until I can get to the docs office....

Because my earlier edit didn't work or I don't understand how to do it....

I did actually have cows milk in my cereal this weekend which I haven't had in months.  I had been using almond milk in my food prep for just about everything.  And I do have a sensitivity to milk myself.  Also, DS' poop has been very stringy and he's been incredibly gassy the past few days.  I don't know.  I could be worrying over nothing, but I worry nonetheless.

  • Have you eaten anything new in the past week or so?

It might not be a food allergy- had you limited your diet at all before?

  • DD has food allergies, but they showed up when she was about 2 months old through foods in my breastmilk.  So if it was a food allergy - I would assume it would be from something he has eaten recently and not anything through your breastmilk.

That being said, unless it's a contact allergy, with food allergies there are usually other symptoms such as diarrhea, mucus in poop, blood in poop and/or vomiting. DD never had a rash, she did have eczema patches on her legs and hives

  • When DD had an allergic reaction (to barley), she ended up with huge hives everywhere (and I mean everywhere) within an hour.  There was no doubt to me that it was a food allergy.  I would wonder if maybe it's something that's come into contact with his skin?  I know DD is sensitive to metal (like snaps, buckles etc.), or has the weather changed (she also gets excema when it gets colder).  I think I would hold off until you see the Dr., because they may be able to tell you what it is.  Unless you've had something new within the last few days, I would be surprised if it's you.
