1st Trimester

TMI question for those who are spotting

I know this may be TMI, but what type of spotting are you having and how far along are you?

I have a call in to my OB, but until I hear back I was hoping to ease my mind. I know spotting is normal, but the spotting I'm having is completely different than last time around and all google tells me is info about light brown spotting.

Thanks ladies.

Re: TMI question for those who are spotting

  • h risk but I was told if there was bright red bleeding like not a few drops but enough to see it when you wipe to go to the ER because you could be having a tubal pregnancy... I was told pink or brown in small ammounts was normal/fine as long as it was not continuous. I would call your advice nurse if you have one available to you GL

  • I had two spotting episodes starting Saturday night and again on Sunday morning.  I went to the ER b/c I am a new pt to my OB's office tomorrow and they didn't have my history on file.  Mine was like pink CM when I wiped both times.  They did an US at the ER and said I was 6w0d yesterday, they did find a heartbeat but told me they thought it was too low, so I was at high risk for mc.  I found that odd bc the hb was 96 bpm, and that contradicts everything I read.  I will update you on what the OB says tomorrow.  The spotting has stopped, I had one more small bit this afternoon but it is brown now, so Im not quite as worried.

When I had my mc, it started as watery pink/red spotting and progressed to a very heavy flow with clots and severe cramping within a matter of hours. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.

  • I had spotting all last week from Sunday through Saturday.  I got my BFP on Tuesday.  Mine was brown, but happened all through the day.  It was very light-just had to use a panty liner.  I read that section as soon as I picked up What to Expect When You're Expecting on Sat.  Smile    HTH.

  • Thanks ladies. My spotting was light brown for 1 1/2 weeks and a few times it was dark red. It is now much darker, like AF red and I do have severe cramping in my right side, but the pain feels like my endometriosis pain, so I don't know what to think and if I would know the difference between m/c, tubal pregnancy or endometriosis pain since my right ovary is constantly in pain.

Krisite, if you are having severe cramping then you need to be seen, just to rule out an emergency.  Hopefully it turns out to be nothing, but I wouldn't take any chances with your health. If you don't hear back from your Doc's nurse line soon, I would head to the ER.  How far along are you?

  • I had bright red/dark red bleeding last night - like, A LOT. There was also some tissue/clots. We frantically went to the ER, and when they did an internal they only saw a tiny bit of blood, no tissue, and a closed cervix. My OB today (already had an appointment scheduled) said that 1 out of 4 women will have bleeding in the first trimester - even a lot like I had. Everything seems to have stopped, she found the baby's heartbeat in a flash, and told me not to worry. She said that if you are constipated (straining to poo) or are throwing up violently (like I am) it is normal - the blood vessels in the cervix can pop and cause bleeding. Don't worry too much until you get checked out. Worrying can only hurt the baby.

  • I've been spotting for a week as of tomorrow night (assuming that I will still be spotting tomorrow). The very first time I noticed it, it was pink. It looked like watered down blood or something? By the next morning it had turned to dark brown. At one point that same day I had one instance where it was dark red. Until this point, it was only when wiping, never enough to stain a panty-liner. So, I went into my OB's office for blood work and my first ultra sound. They confirmed a pregnancy in my uterus, saw the yolk sac but that's it. At this time I had thought I was about 6 weeks along, but also noted that I have irregular cycles. They assumed I was a week earlier.

Since my check up I've continued to spot light to dark brown, with I think one wipe that was pink again. It will sometimes stain a panty-liner, but not at all heavily. I was starting to freak out about a blighted ovum, but I've had follow up blood work done and my HcG levels are rising well so I'm staying positive. I go for a follow up ultra sound Friday. At this point my OB is optimistic.

I hope all is well for you and you can get things checked out soon!

  • My OB called back and suggest I go to the ER so now I'm just waiting because they are very busy. I will keep you ladies posted. Thank you :)
