transition to bottle help

my little girl is 3months old now. and my life is just now starting to pick up the pace again. she's always been a bf baby. so she doesnt really know how to use a bottle. but we are starting to have to be out in public a lot. and it's hard to drop everything for 20 minutes multiple times a day to feed her. does anyone have any suggestions on what type bottle might work for her so she wont get confused and how to get her to switch more easily??? fyi, she doesnt like the avent bottles. I tried that.

Re: transition to bottle help

  • At this point it's pretty unlikely that she'll get confused between a bottle and a boob but we had issues with LO not taking a bottle either.  We finally had luck with the Breastflow bottles and doing things a little differently.

My husband gave the bottle while I was either out of the house or on another floor.

Warm the milk up a couple of degrees warmer than your body temp

Give LO the bottle before they're really hungry

If s/he gets upset, soothe them and try again...when in doubt use a distraction.

When he was consistently taking a bottle without issue I could be in the room or be the one to give it to him.

  • I have been thinking about this lately.  I currently EBF but I'm thinking of starting pumping at 6 months.  I have read that the Breastflow bottles are great for the transition. https://thefirstyears.com/wps/portal/breastflow
