Ugh...my abdomen feels swollen

Is it just me or does anyone else feel swollen and just generally bigger in their abdomen? This is my first pregnancy and the littlest things kinda freak me out. Like today, in the general area of my right ovary I was having a little cramping and I immediately thought, oh crap what if I'm having an ectopic pregnancy!? Its gonna be another week or so before my first OB appointment...sigh...

  • It's tough when you don't know what to expect. Your body is going to go through so much the next 9 months that if you freak out at every pain or weird feeling you are constantly going to be worried. Try not to do that to yourself. Cramping and bloating are so common right now, that is probably what you are experiencing. Just enjoy your pregnancy and know that more than likely everything is perfectly fine.

  • That swollen feeling is probably just bloating. And a little cramping is nothing to be alarmed over either. The bloat will pass, hopefully coming down before a real bump appears. :) If you are a stomach sleeper, your sleep will be interrupted very soon. I am and I'm having to adjust to sleeping on my sides now.

  • You basically took the words right out of my mouth!!! I am feeling the same way. I have minor aching near my left ovary, and immediately I look up ectopic pregnancy info... not fun to read. Anyway, I am a first-timer too, but we will get through it! : )

  • I had many sharp pains in my right side and all sorts of bloating.  All of that is totally normal.  It's crazy how you become aware of every weird pain that emerges.  Just relax and don't worry!

I completely agree with this.  I was trying to figure out a way to describe it, it almost feels like a cross between doing too many situps and pushing your belly out for an extended period of time.  The bloat just makes it feel full, sore and swollen.

And I had cramps the first 6 weeks nonstop, but they would be worse at night.

  • Thanks so much ladies! I really appreciate the reassurance. I'm trying so hard not to freak out about everything but I'm also trying to quit smoking at the same time, not to mention grad school and my inability to sleep for more than 4 hours at any one time. I will definitely work on relaxing more and enjoying my pregnancy. Thanks again!
