is this normal? I really thought by now it would not be so much of a problem but both my kids still throw food when they don't like it or if they're 'all done', bang their sippies or straw cups or plates & throw them off the table (sometimes for fun, sometimes when they're cranky, etc), put their plates on their heads when they're done, etc, and we have been telling them no, taking away the cup or plate, etc for months & months now. If it is really bad (like intentionally chucking huge handfuls or an entire plate with food on it) I have resorted to taking him/her out of hte high chair & into the PNP for a time out. That actually works, every time. When I sit htem back down a minute later, they eat nicely.
Seriously though, when does this stop? I am not comfortable just taking their food away if they've barely eaten at this age but I feel like continuing to give them more or something different reinforces the behavior. Getting really frustrated....
And of course they feed off each other too, one does it then the other does....
Thanks...
(oh & on a related note, when does the fighting of every diaper & clothing change stop? DS does this and it is making me crazy too LOL)
Re: 19 mos old & still throwing food, sippies/cups....?
Mine are 18 months and still throw food/utensils. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be, but they still do it.
I think I read somewhere that it usually tapers off between 18 months and 2 years...but that some kids keep it up until as long as 3. God help me if my girls are still throwing things at 3 years old!!!!!
