3.5wk question

How much is your 3.5 wk old awake? Mine sleeps still most the day but maybe only awake once in the afternoon around lunch time and up in the late evenings. I want to try today to keep her up after her feedings but I don't want to overstimulate her either. The times she is up I am trying to start the routine of eat/wake/sleep cycles but if she stays awake I have to end up nursing her back to sleep cause I she won't without it. TIA

Re: 3.5wk question

  • She will be soon. I'd say that once we hit week 5 she was up a bit after every feeding. It is rare now that she will fall asleep nursing in the daytime. I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to nurse to sleep anyways :) However, that said, DD (both of them actually) seemed to put themselves on the eat, awake, sleep pattern. Which is nice. I nurse her to sleep at night though.

Trying to keep a baby awake is no fun if they want to be asleep. I would just let her dictate when that starts happening.

    good luck!

  • Clara sleeps a ton, like 18 hours a day.  I find that if I nurse her, change her diaper, and then lie her back down for a few minutes rather than hold her, she's somewhat more likely to stay awake.  Most of the time I don't have much control over it, though.  She's gonna be awake when she wants and sleep when she wants.  If I try to stimulate her when she wants to sleep, she just gets pissed before going back to sleep.
