You know what OWT scares me...

and I'm not sure why because I'm not usually one to listen to OWT, but the one that says you should not reach high for things beacuse it puts the baby at risk of getting the umbilical cord wrapped around it's neck has always stuck in my head.... I know I'm crazy, don't judge!

Re: You know what OWT scares me...

  • I have never even heard of that one until yesterday. I don't even see how that could happen, hence the OWT thing I suppose.

  • Just think of it this way...if that were true...pregnant women wouldn?t be able to wash/fix their hair, reach for things in cabinets, raise their hand if they have a question, huge their husbands (mine is a good foot taller than me), stretch, put on a shirt (one that you pull over your head), and so on.

Of all the OWT...this one has to be the most outrageous!

  • I heard that one too and actually asked my doctor about it at the beginning of my first pregnancy--not necessarily about lifting my arms over my head but similar movement in general. I work in a restaurant and during my first pregnancy I waited tables and anytime I would carry a tray any given co-worker would seriously yell at me and I would yell at them right back that if I did it before pregnancy it was fine to do during until it made me uncomfortable. One of my co-workers who has kids said that it was fine right now to lift the trays up over my shoulder like normal but that her doctor told her when she got bigger she couldn't do that anymore because the umbilical cord moves and it will move with the twisting and lifting motion of bringing a tray up and over...especially heavier ones that require force and muscle.

So I asked my doctor about it and she just said not to strain myself lol. she just told me it would get harder in pregnancy to move like that...and she was right, eventually I physically could not bring a tray from low in front of me to high over one shoulder. As far as the umbilical  cord moving she said yeah it'll move but it'll move all the time...DD played with hers and snuggled with with in almost every ultrasound pic from 27-36weeks lol
