Aynone used Abreva while pregnant?

I usually get one or two cold sores a year and this morning I woke up with one.  It's the first time I've had one while pregnant and I don't know if its safe to use Abreva.  I Googled it and women said their docs were giving them Valtrex which seems a lot worse than a cream.  I left a message for my doctor to call me back, but until she does I'd like to start attacking this thing.

Honestly, I have used Abreva a couple of times in the last few months when I thought I had a cold sore coming on.... The nastiness cleared up, and I havent given it a second thought.... I didnt even call my doc

Isn't Abreva just topical?  If it's not a pill, I wouldn't really worry.

 

Ok.  So I just looked it up.  It's category B. Which means it should be fine.

I used it when I got one a couple weeks ago...but was nervous so I just used it once a day. Usually it clears it up quickly but this time it took a week to go away! I hope you have better luck, I despise those things.

I used it for a couple days really early on, then again around 20w when I felt one coming on.

My doc okay'd Abreva but was very hesitant about giving me a script for valetrex and they are BOTH cat b. It was kind of absurd.

I have gotten cold sores several times during this pregnancy. I have not used Valtrex but used topical cream (Denavir RX strength). My OB said all topical cream is fine as is Valtrex but I felt better with cream. Good luck, they suck!
