After my nuchal translucency came back with results showing one baby had a 1:25 chance of downs syndrome and another a 1:3000, the doctors figured something was wrong in our twins since they are identical. They indicated that this is the first step of Twin to Twin Transfusion.
Our next step was an amnio to rule out any chromosomal abnormality - during the amnio, the doctor noticed a reduction in fluid in one baby, so while they still can't diagnose me with TTTS (and I hope they never do!), he thinks it is the beginning.
During this scary roller coaster ride, we did find out today that they do not have downs syndrome. It is one big sigh of relief on this very scary ride.
We also found out they are boys. My 2 year old daughter will love staying the princess of the house.
Hope all the other people going through TTTS are doing okay!
Re: My first sigh of relief in our Twin to Twin Transfusion roller coaster
I am glad that you were able to get some good news, and congrats on two boys.
I have no advice on TTTS but want to wish you the best of luck in the rest of your pregnancy.
My name is Karen Moise and I am a nurse with Texas Chidlren's Fetal Center. TTTS is my speciality. Knowledge is POWER. Please arm your self with as much info as possible.
All moms who are carrying twins should have a MFM appt. To identufy what type of twins you are having. This is done via ultrasound the first trimester. If identical then you should begining every 2 weeks ultrasounds starting at 16 weeks. You should have the volumes checked for each sac, and the Doppler's for MCA, DV & UA. Your doctor will know what these are. Also growth should be done every 4 weeks.
Here is a link to our TTTS video, please share with anyone who is having identical twins

I am glad you got some good news about your babies.
With TTTS, I really needed to stay positive. Nobody thought I would make it as far as I did, but I went to my scheduled C-section. Every piece of good news will hopefully help you get through this scary roller coaster. Keep up the good work!
I'm so glad you got some good news, and congrats on two boys!
I have a second scan on Tuesday to check for TTTS - 17 week scan was clear, and we're hoping that this one looks good as well. Good luck and keep us posted!
