A couple of questions

Would you and your dh be annoyed if your mother/Mil showed up unannounced a couple times a week?

Would you be annoyed if you were not on speaking terms with mother/mil and they show up at the nanny's house next door to visit ds (not letting us know before hand)?

Just wondering.

Absolutely.  My parents live less than a mile away but they usually call before they come over....which gives us about 30 seconds to prepare for the visit, LOL.  However, we ARE on speaking terms with my parents and I recently had a small attitude with my Dad because I figured out he was dropping in to have lunch at school with Emma every now and then w/o saying anything to me about it.  It's a boundary thing I guess.

  • Yes, absolutely and I would be asking DH to have a conversation with her about it. Sneakiness pisses me off more than anything.
  • Yes, I would be annoyed by both and would address it. MIL used to make plans and tell us they were planning to come visit last minute and found out the hard way that wasn't a good idea because we'd always be doing something else. We nipped that in the bud really quickly. The nanny thing would really bother me and would be addressed very quickly, especially if we weren't on speaking terms.

  • YES x2! Especially if we weren't on good terms. My nanny would be instructed to either not answer the door or refuse to allow them in.

  • It happens to me all the time.  But tomorrow we close on a house that is NOT next door.

I would be annoyed but for my ILs confrontation is never the answer and it ends up fueling their fire anyway.  Next time she stops by your house sweet as pie give her a chore to do that would "really help you out", like watching the baby while you shower or taking the garbage on the way out - that sort of thing.  Get your Nanny in on it, like tell her to pretend she has something important to do just as your DC has a dirty diaper.  Eventually she will decide that "making herself at home" is probably not that fun.
