Is it ridiculous to...

get a CZ wedding set until I have the baby?

My rings didn't fit after DS, and I sort of forced them back on. I've been wearing them for almost 18 months this way, and they never bothered me until last night when my finger really hurt and turned red. I am prone to early swelling (lucky me!) and I had to force my engagement ring off with olive oil. My wedding band is still on, but it will have to come off by force soon too.

I just feel weird chasing a toddler with a pregnant belly and no wedding ring. I know a lot of people have kids who aren't married, and I have no issue with that. However, I am married, and I feel strange without them.  Is this as idiotic as it sounds?

  • I don't think it's ridiculous at all. If my rings get too tight I plan to buy something to keep on my finger. And I can admit that I do care what other people think of my pg belly with a bare finger!

  • That's a REALLY good idea!!! I haven't been able to wear mine very much in the past year. It's like a switch goes off in my body that says "your pregnant and your rings don't fit" I've never cared what people though about it but that's a REALLY good idea!

  • I photograph newborns in the hospital and moms are always doing this. One woman had a giant rock on her finger and I didn't even know if was fake until she told me. I must have been starring or something. LOL!

  • I think it's a great idea.  It is such a shame you have to deal with finger swelling, I'm sorry.  A colleague of mine did this early on when she could not wear her wedding rings any more.  She got a $30 CZ ring to wear so that she could still have something on her wedding finger.  It certainly would be important to me!

If I experience any finger swelling that makes my wedding rings to tight, I would definitely get something to wear instead.

I have heard that some women wear their wedding rings on a chain for their pregnancy, but this is not so obvious as having a ring on your wedding finger.

I say go for it.  It's not rediculos at all!

  • I don't think so. I'll probably do the same thing.  My rings are pretty loose as it is, so I'm holding out hope that I won't have to though.

  • Not ridiculous at all. If it makes you more comfortable, go for it!

I had to take my wedding set off a few months before my daughter was born. Since it was close to Christmas my DH bought me a simple wedding band a few sizes bigger to wear until my set fit again. I've already switched to it this pregnancy. I just feel so naked without a ring on after wearing one for years!

  • Thanks for all the input! Glad I wasn't just being pregnant and crazy...

I have a family stone for my engagement ring, and its round. If I was getting my own stone I'd have preferred a pear shape, so I guess I can get myself a fake one! Win, win, right?

  • I dont think so. I will probably just wear mine on a necklace though.
  • I'm running to Khol's after work tomorrow. Such a brilliant idea!!

  • I got one for $20 when I was still just engaged and my real ring was with the jeweler being fit to my wedding band. I felt so naked without it so I got a fake one so I would stop freaking out every time I didn't feel a ring on my finger. I plan to use that one if my fingers are too swollen during the pregnancy - although my wedding band is pretty loose so maybe I can wear just that.

  • I wouldn't buy new rings because I have a lovely ring that normally only fits my biggest finger. When my hands were really swollen with DS, I'd wear it on my wedding ring finger, just for something. It looks more like just an engagement ring, but it's enough for me.

  • If my hands swell, I am going to do this.  Macy's has some nice ones that I don't think will turn my finger green :)  But they are only like $20.

You might as well get a huuuge stone while you are at it :)

ETA: to get a ring off your finger, Windex works wonders.  That's what jewelers use.

  • I don't think it is werid at all. I plan to wear some sort of ring on that finger when mine doesn't fit anymore.
