anyone worried they are having twins??

i'm just a little paranoid.  two of my family/friends are having twins. one friend had a set 9 months ago (none were medically assisted).  Twins do not run in my or dh's family, but i am worried i may join the twin streak.  and to top it off i think my stomach is bigger this time than it was last time at 6 weeks.  i'm just paranoid and can't wait till my 1st appt in 3 weeks -- uggghhh!!

LOL, other people close to you having twins definitely does not increase your odds! Unless you're in a category that puts you at higher chances for having fraternal twins (over 35, previous twin births, african american, to name a few), then your odds are something like 1 in 100. 

Identical twins are spontaneous and not genetic at all, and if I recall correctly, your odds are something like 1 in 300. But I might be wrong there.

I am very paranoid. Twins run in my family and i should be next in line. However, Im worried about everything so if i get through this preg with a baby or twins ill be a very happy person

  I was a little worried with this pregnancy, because Twins run in both mine and DHs family, and I got hit so hard with MS, plus when I tested (already 3 days past my missed period, with charting so I knew I Ovd on exactly day 13) the lined turned pink so fast and so dark...

But I just got one little bean in there, so no craziness for me.  My DH was hoping for twins, I think he just thought it would be fun... I'm just so delighted to be having one.  Dont worry, if you are or not, either way you will have an awesome time.

Besides, if you are a second or more time Mom, you will show earlier since the stomach muscles are looser than the first time around.  Apparently most STM show much earlier.  (I have a friend who is only 8 weeks, and is bigger than me at almost 13)

If you are not, you can relax a bit... if you are it will be a double blessing.  Best of Luck. xx

My Best friend keeps saying im going to have twins and then she can have one of my babies. I told her if I do have twins she definitely has to babysit all the time.

Fraternal twins run in my family. My mom is one of the twins, but we are having one. Sometimes even having twins in the family doesn't mean much. Like another poster said, identical twins are spontaneous.

Funny you bring this up... I was worried that I was carrying twins due to the fact that I started showing early, have gained weight quickly, and have an enormous appetite.  Well it turns out my intuition was correct because we found out at my u/s today we are in fact having twins!  It doesn't run in our families, but we are having identical twins which is not necessarily genetic.  We're shocked.

Just to let you know, twins in your DH's family have ZERO influence on if you will. They have to run in your family. Sure you could have twins, but the likelihood is slim. Other people having twins doesnt mean you will.

I'm wondering too!! I've been extremely hungry, tired, bloated, and I just have this weird feeling that I'm having twins.  Either way I will be happy

I am a fraternal twin, which is the kind that runs in families (identical twins are completely spontaneous, as others have pointed out - genetics has nothing to do with it).  I was extremely paranoid because I feel as if I am a LOT more sick this time, my symptoms started a lot earlier, and of course my belly is poking out quite a bit more.

Try not to worry until you have a reason - and if my mom can handle twins, anyone can!  Hang in there!

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  my sister has a 4 year old girl and twins who are 2 yrs. old.  I.would.die. DD is so high maintance, so I couldn't imagine taking care of 3 under 2!

We found out we were having twins at 9 weeks!! Needless to say we were in shock.

It wasn't even on my radar until I POAS tonight (5 wks, 1 day) with water-clear urine and popped up with a test line 10 shades darker than the control line within 5 seconds.

BFF said "Twins!" I don't find it particularly funny.......

I'm not worried about having twins, but I really can't stop thinking about twins. my DH and I keep going back and forth about boy vs. Girl. Well, today DH told me that he just had a feeling it was twins, and I haven't mentioned my twin thoughts to him. Then he said, maybe that's why we can't decide if it's a boy or a girl.

Twins run in my family and DH's as well.  I was nervous that I might be but U/S on monday confirmed that there is just one in there!  Twins are a lot more work, but they are amazing.  I was a nanny for twins from the day they came home from the hospital until they were almost a year.  They have this amazing bond, even from the start.

Twins are not contagious. 

I am nervous I might have twins because it DOES run in my family, and I have gained a bit of weight very quickly. And feel I am showing a little more than most women who are at the same point as I am. But we will see tomorrow!

I am worried that I may have twins. Twins run in both our families. It is supposed to skip generations and both our mothers are twins so we will see. Someone jokingly said that since both our moms were twins that we should have quadrupletes - I wanted to punch her. I dont know if I can handle 2 babies at once plus the extra risk involved in the pregancy (premature births, smaller birth weight, etc). I just want one for now - ultrasound tomorrow so I will know for sure!

me. yesterday in my appointment she saw "something that looks like another baby". I go back on monday for another ultrasound so hopefully she will know better then....

Apparently it is a common feeling for a pregnant woman to get the feeling she is having twins... I do on some days and some days I couldn't imagine it!

Twins does not skip a generation in my family, and I was an identical twin (sister passed away at birth) but it is highly possible for me to have fraternal twins, which is how the process has gone in the last 4 generations of my family.

If I do, I do, if I don't...then one will be plenty!

my hcg was really high at 5 weeks which makes me wonder.. i guess time will tell for all of us

According to my count I am only 5 weeks however I have a bump and eat like crazy all day long. Twins run in my family like crazy and in my husbands family as well will they be able to tell when I go to the Dr. next week??
