Arrhythmia in Baby B

So I went to my OB appt today and I was super happy that I had gained weight this time (was sick over and over and didn't gain any weight in 4 weeks - felt like a bad mom), and my blood pressure was great.  And then my doctor found an arrhythmia in Baby B's heart - so down to the MFM I went.  Every thing looks good structurally but there is definitely an arrhythmia.  I was told she could grow out of it or it could turn into SVT (a more serious arrhythmia).  Just wondering if this has happened to any one else, and how their babies are today?  I am trying not to freak, and I am thankful that it does not appear to be something that will require cardiac surgery.

TIA!

Re: Arrhythmia in Baby B

  • My 8-week-old little girl has an arrhythmia also.  I was sent to MFM about the same time (26-28 weeks...somewhere around there).  They told me that it was possible that she could grow out of it before birth, but that didn't happen.  The day after she was born they had a pediatric cardiologist monitoring her.  We had a follow-up a week or so after we were discharged -- where he did an EKG, an ultrasound to check function, and put a holter monitor on her to monitor her heart for 24 hours.  One of the main things they were looking for was to see if the extra beats increased when she got upset -- thankfully they didn't, and that was a good sign. We had another follow-up a month later -- with another holter monitor -- and her arrhthmia had decreased. :)  Although it isn't gone, the doctor anticipates that she will eventually grow out of it.  If not, he says he still wouldn't be worried as it only happens 2 pecent on one side and 9 percent on the other, and that they usually don't consider medication until it is occuring in the 20 percent range.  At this point, she doesn't need another check-up for 6 months.

Well, I hope that made some kind of sense. Haha.

Try not to freak out -- I know it's easier said than done, but I'm sure all will be well with your little baby B.  Best of luck to you! :)
