Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Note to self- don't leave Dh w/ DS too long.

Last night I went to the NKOTB concert. It was the first time DS and DH were left alone together for an extended period of time. Dh fed him about 10 oz. over a hour period! Apparently, DS was fussy so DH decided to send me pics of my crying baby. He was trying to be funny, but it just killed my fun. I know he gets overwhelmed so I was sympathetic. Next time though, the baby is going to Grandma's. I hope now he realizes that I'm not just sitting around watching TV all day.

Re: Note to self- don't leave Dh w/ DS too long.

  • When DS was that age, he would comfort suck when he was with my mom, which meant that he ate a ton at her house. When I realized that is what he was doing, I told her to feed him a few oz's and try a nuk to see if he was comfort sucking and it worked.

Have your DH try that next time and remember that he is learning just like you are. I know my DH would be really hurt if he thought I didn't trust him alone with DS.

  • You just have to help DH out. My DH has Wednesday and Thursday's off from work and DS stays home with him, the first 2 weeks DH would call me with questions while at work but now he totally gets the hang of it and loves it. I wouldn't be quick to send him to grandma's because of what happened while you were at the concert, just show DH and everything will be fine the next time you leave DS and DH home alone.
  • Guys sometimes need help with childcare, it doesn't come naturally to them.  Give him time, DH was helpless/clueless at the beginning, but now he's much better at understanding DS's needs. I wouldn't pawn DC off on Grandma, that could just make it harder on your DH. It's not easy for him, either, remember that.

  • Oh I trust him to no end. I just feel bad that he felt so overwhelmed and couldn't calm him. I know he's learning too so I try to be patient.

  • I work late every tuesday night.... dd and dh have a heck of a time, and lately she has been sick and giving him a really hard time.  I try and talk him through everything.  I will say he finally realized how much work it is to stay with the baby :)
