Anyone giving up things for Lent?

This year I'm giving up chips. I really don't eat chips unless I go out for Mexican food, but when they are at the restaurant I just can't get enough chips and salsa. I might just try to avoid mexican restaurants during Lent.

I'm treating myself to mexican food tonight to get my fix for 40 days.

Re: Anyone giving up things for Lent?

  • When my best friend was  7, she gave up cleaning her room for lent which I think is fairly brilliant :)

I'm giving up sushi. I've had it a few times since finding out that I'm pregnant, and I just feel really guilty afterward. Between pregnancy and lent, I should be able to stay on the bandwagon and give up one of my favorite foods ever.

  • Last year I gave up all alcohol (I also lost about 15 pounds that way... oh beer)

This year, since I'm not drinking, I'm not sure. I'll have to really think about it. I know it starts like... today or Friday, but I'll figure something out.

  • I once gave up chewing gum. I was a chewing maching...a pack a day. Once lent was over I went back. Since becoming preggers I have limited the amount.

This year....I dunno what I should give up.

  • I usually give up Diet Pepsi, but I already gave that up for the pregnancy! I have no clue what to give up- I still have food aversions so I barely eat as is. Maybe I'll give up whining about being pregnant :)

  • The Catholic church we go to encourages people to do something (i.e., give more money to charity, do volunteer work, etc) instead of giving something up. Having said that, I'm probably going to give up something, too (maybe carbonated beverages). Also, I won't be eating meat on Fridays during Lent, but I've decided that it would probably be unhealthy for me to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

  • I suck at picking things out to give up for Lent.  I did alcohol one year, but it wasn't that hard b/c I've never been a big drinker.  I tried to give up cussing one year, but that only lasted about a week.  The most memorable Lent I have was my Freshman year in HS---I gave up Puff Daddy and my best friend gave up Will Smith.  They were huuuugggeee that year--always on TV and the radio, magazine covers, etc.  It was soooo hard!

  • I'll give up any sweets/candy. I am already a veg and don't drink, or do coffee. My DH on the other hand is giving up sweets, coffee and alcohol for lent and he likes all of these A LOT.

  • I have given up so much on the GD diet. So I am going to try to figure out something involving more patience with DH.
