Insurance company vent. Plus stressed over NT.(long)

When I found out I was pregnant it was just a month (or so) after DH had taken a new job. So our insurance switched to a new company. I waited until after our new policy took over before going in for my first OB appt. I called the company and ask if there was a certain Dr I needed to go to. She told me as long as they took blue cross I was in good shape. So I googled OB's found a highly rated one and found out they take blue cross. First appt was on 2/2. fast forward to today.

I got a letter in the mail stating that because they didn't receive information they had requested from the drs office they are denying the claim. The information they requested was the name of the referring physician and all medical records. Well there was no "referring physician" I did was I was told and called. So now im guessing they are going to deny my first ultrasound claim that was a month ago.

Tomorrow I have a 2nd appt and Wednesday I have my NT scan. I dont know whats going to happen? Are they going to want me to pay for the visit up front? Are they going to cancel my NT scan? Im 12 weeks on wednesday I really dont have time to find a new dr in time to get my NT done. I know it has to be done in a certain window. Im so stressed now. Bleh.

  • Do you have a primary care physician? Tat would be the refering.  If not, maybe you can get a fast appt with one and have them refer you to your OB so that at least the rest of your appts will be covered?

  • We have the BSBC (of SC), and I had to notify them of my pregnancy.  Going to a doctor does not constitute notification, so make sure you read the booklet on the requirements - get your husband to get a copy from work.

I was able to notify BSBC onine, but we had a 1-800 number to call, too.

  • Insurance companies are evil. That's all there is to it. I'm sure there is a way to straighten this out... probably a good idea to ask the general practitioner for a referral and notify the insurance company of the pregnancy just in case.

So far, I've had to pay for everything (although at the discounted rate the insurance co. has negotiated w/ providers) because we have a high deductible plan. I can't wait until we hit the deductible!
