Dressing the Same

I have been getting comments lately about the boys outfits. Everyone asking Do you dress them the same everyday??

Ever since they were born I have been dressing them the same. But the thing that has got me thinking maybe Im crazy is that I even put them in the same sleepers for bed. Also if someone buys them clothes that dont match I either search for the match for each of them or return the one for a match.

Just wondering if anyone else does this?

Re: Dressing the Same

  • I like dressing my twins the same mostly b/c they look nothing like twins- and it looks cute, and i know i don't have too long that i can do it :)

they have a lot of clothes that don't match - b/c of their older brother's hand me downs.... so often they are not dressed the same... but I do prefer it.

they rarely match their PJs though... i don't care about that :)

  • I like to match or coordinate my girls' outfits, and that includes pj's.  However, if one needed to be changed, I wouldn't change the other.  And, I am loose in my definition of coordinating...one could wear duck pj's and the other frogs, so I haven't really gotten any 2 outfits that were just wholly unrelated that I would feel compelled to return.  I think you should just dress them however you like :)

  • I've got B/G twins and am hung up on them coordinating, if not matching.  The matching part is SO hard because most stores don't have the same thing in boys and girls clothes, but I try to make sure what they are wearing goes together.  If my DD is in a pink smocked or embroidered dress, DS will be in a smocked or embroidered blue bubble.  The design may not be the same, but the outfits coordinate because they are the same style and brand.

And mine are sleeping right now in coordinating PJs.  Hers are lavender and white stripes and his are blue and white stripes.   :)  He had one set of stripey PJs that didn't have a match and it drove me crazy enough that I went out and bought the girl version.

I have issues.  I fully recognize this.  :)

  • I do the same thing. They wear the same thing, even when we're home. If one spits up and I have to change him, I'll leave the other in what he's wearing but when it's his turn to be changed I look for the matching outfit.

  • our twins are not here and we are on team green  but if we have Boy twins they will wear same outfit but different color ... like one in red the other in blue same shirt just diff color.  Does that make sense they will have some things that are the same and at times will be in the same color and stuff..

If we have B/G twins - they will just wear stuff that matches eachother when we go out.  If girl wears a coral dress boy will wear a turquoise shirt - i think .. or that is our plan.

Honestly , were a lil on the dark side and so our kids will prolly have tons of black clothes with skulls on em !

  • i coordinate. rarely match. sometimes if i find a shirt i truly love i will by two. it is obvious enough that they are twins i dont need to call more attention to it. :)

  • I dress mine in coordinating outfits... sometimes same exact outfit; sometimes in different colors.  When at home, they usually don't match bc one spit up and had to change, and I refuse to change the other to match.  As for gifts that are different, I too try to find something that coordinates.  SIL gave me a ton of handmedowns from nephew, but obviously only 1, so I try to buy something current similar.

  • We never match dress them the same.  When I dress them, I do coordinating.  When DH dressses them, he takes whatever is on top of the drawer (wehich make my coordinating more difficult)!  I like matching and coordinating, but since the twins are identical, it makes it much easier to tell who is who, especially when we are not right next to them.  If they are playing on the floor, it is nice to know who is crying before I get over to them.  Also, I can tell them apart, but most people can't.  We have a color scheme - Twin A is always in blue, Twin B is in brown or green.  If the choice is brown/red, then Twin A would get the red and Twin B would get the brown.

  • We do not dress them the same.  I had planned on it at first, but when they were born there was such a weight difference that they weren't in the same size clothing.  (Thanks TTTS!) And once they both got up to newborn sizes I couldn't bring myself to match them because they have such different personalities, it just didn't feel like the right thing to do.  Silly, I know!

I love the matchy look, it's just not for us.

  • I either match the boys or put them in co-ordinating outfits. I put them in the same sleepers at night too. Embarrassed

  • I think I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've dressed them alike since they were born. We coordinate more frequently, but usually each girl is in her own outfit.  Some of that is because 90% of their clothes are hand me downs from cousins, but alot of it is they're 2 unique girls, and I like them having their own clothes and identity. JMO, but maybe I'm weird.

Ditto this.  It is also just easier to grab two of the same outfit.  I worry that one might look cuter if they aren't matching...lol  Sometimes they'll be coordinating like one wearing stripes and the other polka dots in the same colors.  But 99% of the time they match.  Right now I have 16 matching outfits and 6 non-matching outfits.  We have a couple pairs of matching jammies, but they don't match for the most part cause they were older DDs.

  • I never thought I'd be the matchy kind. (I think I even said here that I wouldn't dress them alike before they were born.) Then they came, and they're just too cute! I prefer coordinated outfits instead of identical, but they wear whatever people give us. They wear coordinated pjs, but that's because that's what they'll wear to daycare the next day.

  • I dress them the same or coordinating sometimes, but not all the time. Right now I pretty much just put them in what fits because they're so different in size and I don't have many coordinating outfits in different sizes.

  • I was adament that mine would never dress matchy my whole pregancy then I got a TON of matching stuff for my shower and surprisingly I don't mind them matching at all.  We have days they match, days they coordinate and days it is whatever goes!  When we go out in a busy place, like when we went to Chuck E Cheese, we tend to have them matching or at least all in the same colors so they are easier to pick out of the crowd.

  • We have a lot of matching outfits and if both are clean, then I'll dress them matching over non. I don't care about pj's though. At this point, I'm just happy if they sleep at night!

  • Wow I didn't realize I would be so far in the minority here! I never dress them in coordinating or matchy outfits - in fact, one day I accidentally put them in coordinating outfits and only realized it when we arrived at out destination and was kind of annoyed by it! My LOs look like brother and sister but I don't want them to always get lumped together as a "set". Just NMS but I don't judge others who like to do this.

  • I would prefer that mine coordinated but it's SO hard to find cute, quality, coordinating clothing.  They end up dressing the same most of the time, which I think is super cute while they are still this little.  :)

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I dress mine alike (and usually sleepers) 95% of the time.  Otherwise I feel like I'm putting 1 baby in the cuter/nicer outfit.  I know it may seem super anal, but that's my main reasoning.  I never thought I'd dress them alike before they were born, but then I always felt I was favoring someone.

ETA:  I'll let them wear whatever they want as soon as they show an opinion.  DS1 has been very strong headed about his clothing since right before he turned 2 years.

  • YUP, I totally do this and my MIL always makes fun of me for it. Sometimes we do coordinating shirts and same pants or something, but I just really enjoy dressing them the same. If we are just hanging out at home, if one needs a change of clothes, I'll just change the one, but if we are heading out somewhere (not just the store), then I'll change them both. I'm sure I won't do this forever, but I just think they look so stinkin' cute when they are dressed alike!

Um, no.  Your girls need to dress identical FOREVER!

Nope, I really haven't dressed them alike, although the handful of times I have seem to be documented (daycare pictures...dressed alike by mistake; sister's wedding festivities, etc).  DDs have different body types so different things work better on each DD.  Also, for the most part, they pick out their own clothes and they have different taste. :-)
