I saw this on a name list, pronounced just like Isla. Would you still say this as Eye luh? Is it a legit spelling? Is it another name entirely? THANKS!
I read this as EYE-luh only because my best friend's name is Aili (pronounced EYE-lee). Her name is Finnish, so maybe Aila pronounced like Isla is a Finnish version?
Re: Aila
Ditto!
I have no idea how it could be pronounced like "Isla" as there is no letters that make an "S" sound, so probably a youneek spelling.
I love Isla. My husband loves it when I say it, but hates the S....
he said it's like an isle/aisle and he doesn't like that for no real reason!? ugh
I wouldn't want to even take my chance at pronouncing that correctly. I think "Isla" should be Isla.
I would probably pronounce it "Eh-la" because I wouldn't think Isla would be spelled that way.

This
There is no S in Isla-EYE-luh
it's a silent S

Looks to me like it should be pronounced ay-luh.
If you like Isla, use Isla. There's no reason to screw with the spelling.
I could be wrong but I'm actually pretty sure Isla is Scottish for island?
anyway as MJ said there is no "s" sound! and I would also pronounce youes A-luh with a long a
