7 week u/s and low fetal heartrate?

Long-winded so thanks for reading before your eyes glaze over ;)

Update to my post last week after a pretty negative 6 week u/s.

Yesterday we had a follow-up u/s (7 weeks, 5 days) and were given better news and encouraged because AT LEAST there was a heartbeat (we were prepared for the worst being that there may not even be one). Was also told the yolk sac looks ok, embryo appears to be growing fine (except it seems to be measuring at 6 weeks).

However, the biggest issue is that heartbeat is slow at only 90 bpm. Was told they like to see it at least at 100 bpm, although I've been reading that it should actually be even higher. I know that low heartrate is not a good sign but we are trying to stay positive and believe that the best is going to happen.

Doctor told us the pregnancy could really go either way at this point. We have yet another u/s next week so the waiting game continues..at this point all we can do is hope.

Anyone had something similar happen?? Thanks for reading--could really use some encouragement right about now....

Re: 7 week u/s and low fetal heartrate?

  • I have no info for you about the heartbeat, sorry. A few weeks ago at 7 weeks 5 days the baby measured 6 weeks 6 days, and has since caught up to only 2 days behind, so try not to worry about the size, as babies grow at their own pace.

    GL to you!

  • I had something simular around 10 weeks, But it didn't end well. I lost baby C at 12 weeks after seeing the heart rate only at 90.

So you know if you ovulated later than you did? Maybe your ealier into your pregnancy than you think you are.

    Sending you some good vibes.

  • I'm not completely sure because this is my first pregnancy, but I see alot of stories how some people go to hear/see a heartbeat at 6 or 7 weeks and they dont hear or see anything at all because it's too earlier. Hopefully you are only 6 weeks along, and the hb increases these next few days/weeks, GL, T&P to you!

  • i had my first ultrasound at 5weeks, 6 days and the heartbeat was about 90. doc said it was normal for that gestation but that if it wasn't quicker by the next week, he would be concerned. the next week it was 135. i was told by 7 weeks, it should be between 120 and 180. let's hope you are earlier than you think you are.

  • If you are measuring at 6 weeks, is there a possibility you could have ovulated late?  If so, 90 bpm is very normal for a 6 week baby.  That's what my baby's bpm  was at 5 weeks 6 days.  My doctor was also concerned b/c I was measuring 2 weeks behind!  I ovulated 2 weeks late, so I had a lot of follow up appointments.  Is there a possibility that your doctor checked your beta levels to see if they are doubling every couple days?  That's always something extra to maybe ease your mind.

It's very good that you at least saw a heartbeat.  I hope it continues to beat!

    Good luck.

  • Unfortunately, no..there's no possibility that I ovulated late as I was testing and we timed intercourse-- so I pretty much know down to about 1-2 days of when we conceived. So I should be 7 weeks but I'm measuring a week smaller, so I suppose that's also not a good sign.

I had three blood draws where my betas were doubling fine, but there's a problem with my progesterone being too low, so I've been on suppositories 2 times a day and I'm still taking them.

u/s next week should tell us either way, I guess. The waiting just sucks. Emotional rollercoaster.....

Even if you didn't ovulate late, you could have had a long luteal phase. I hope it all turns out okay for you.

That's true too.  A long luteal phase and perhaps late implantation?  You can implant 6-10 days after ovulating, so there is still a possibility that everything is fine.  Don't give up hope yet.

  • I actually didn't know or think about long luteal phase/late implantation, so perhaps! Something to hope for. Thanks much for the encouragement :):)
