Food allergy symptoms

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms are of a food allergy?  We started DS on sweet potatoes Saturday and yesterday I noticed a red bumpy  rash above his belly button.  Just wondering if this could be a reaction.  I have a call into the doc, but thought I would ask here too.

Could be... my pedi said to watch out for anything abnormal including rash, vomiting, temperature, diarrhea.
