reason for leaving on an application

I left a job back in 2007 to be a SAHM.  I went back to work in 2008, never really applied, was just asked to do some contract work.  Now, I'm applying for a job and the application asks for reason for leaving.  It is not my most recent work history, but I don't want to leave it blank, and I don't really want to put to be a stay at home mom.  Is there something general that I can put?  Any ideas?

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.

I am filling out teaching applications right now, (potentially for next year), and I have to answer the same question. I put down that my reason for leaving was to raise a family. It is very common practice in my profession to do this, but I don't know about yours.

I spent some time looking at how to word this on a resume, and I found this quote which sums up a great way to approach this:

If you have taken an extended period of time out to raise your family, simply highlight the dates on your resume, with a description such as "maternity break". Refer to any relevant part-time work or study you may have completed during this period, if appropriate. Use your cover letter to reassure potential employers that you are now ready to return to the workplace and have made reliable childcare arrangements, as well as indicating any efforts you've made to keep yourself up-to-date with developments in your particular marketplace.

  • On applications I have filled out I put that I left to care for family. Leaving to care for your child is not a bad thing and most employers dont think a bad thought at that. they would rather see that then you job hopping cause you didnt like your job or whatever else.
