Baby Showers

XP: If you're doing a "meet the baby" party...

Have you thought of any themes? LO#2 and DS will only be 17 mo apart so of course I'm not doing a shower but I don't want to miss out on celebrating this baby's entrance into the world! We are planning on doing a "meet the baby" party about a month after birth. That should be some time in July and we live on the beach, so I know there's plenty of options but there are a lot of creative ladies on the bump and I love to hear your ideas on fun themes/locations/activities, etc. TIA! p.s. LO#2 is another boy...

  • We are planning on doing one as well. No themes yet, but it will be in our house. I have a feeling it will be more of an "open house" feel--where people drop in from 12-4pm or something. My husband's family is HUGE (and unfortunately we are close to everyone--so it isn't like the family is huge, and we could skip inviting people.) My family is smaller, but because of that---we are super close to a lot of my 3rd, 4th cousins and great aunts and uncles. Again, we couldn't skip inviting. Plus, we have a core group of friends as well.

I did tell my mom that before the baby is born, I wanted to have the invitations ready, stamped and to go--that way as soon as I deliver, Rich can run home and put them in the mail--so people will get them ASAP.

  • We did one.  We always have an annual BBQ party so we just made it a BBQ/Meet the Baby Party.  Basically it was just a BBQ theme - napkins, table covers, etc.  We did have a cake with LO's picture on it and some balloons.

  • I think your theme would kind of depend on the crowd..

Is it ladies only or co-ed?

personally what appeals most to me is afternoon tea/brunch type parties with lots of fancy pastries and chatting with close friends/family.

So I would probably do a Tea theme or even Ladies night In (probably with mocktails)

for a large co-ed group I think an afternoon or even evening party would be good. (BBQ or Pasta type Meal)

I would probably just use my favorite colors  as accents .. or perhaps play off of that babies Nursery theme.

  • We're also doing an at-home open house type of thing.  We live in a tiny row home in the city, so I'm decorating the front window/door and just getting a couple of bunches of balloons to put on the table where the cake will be.  We're keeping it low key, no themes or games or anything like that, (that's why I opted for this type of party vs. a traditional shower, even though I'm a first time mom).

I was under the impression that themes/activities and the like were shower territory, not for MTB parties...but to each her own.  If you live on a beach in July, a BBQ picnic setting would be my first thought.  Adults could play volleyball, kids, (if there will be any other than yours), could do a sand castle contest...you know...beachy stuff.  An ocean theme would work nicely, considering it's primarily blue and LO#2 is a boy.  I'm not sure what's out there decoration-wise for this, but that's right off the top of my head.

BTW, I'm also very much liking PP's idea of getting the invitations ready to go ahead of time.  Who knows where the stamp will wind up after pulling an all-nighter with a brand new LO!  hahaha
