Baby Names

Ignacio, anyone? Anyone?

my dear sweet traditional spanish hubby wants to name the baby Ignacio, nickname Iggy. I admit there is a hipster in me that might go along with it, but my logic says no way. Does anyone not hate this name? Who among you will stand for little Ignacio?

Re: Ignacio, anyone? Anyone?

  • I will...traditional/cultural = Win for Ignacio

I don't care for "Iggy" makes me cringe.

  • Love Ignacio.  I'm not really feelin' the NN, but it is just a NN.

  • I love this Spanish name! :) The only negative I can think of is the possibility of the nick name Nacho, but that's not too terrible. Unless it's meant as an insult, of course.

  • I will, I will!

I think Ignacio is great. Iggy isn't my fave nn for this name, though, Nacho is.

  • i like it [the full name, iggy is not my favorite] but if you don't, there are so many great spanish names to choose. make it a good one for those of us whose kids can't pull off more exotic names :)

Saw this after I responded. I'm usually with you on your opinions, forensicmama, but I guess you only need to know one super-awesome person named Nacho IRL to have good associations with this nn.

  • Wow, I am impressed with the outpouring of love for little Ignacio. I may have to give it a chance. I just can't imagine yelling "Ignacio!" across the park. I am not crazy about Iggy, but Nacho won't do at all even though it is the traditional nn. In a small southern town it sounds kinda durogatory.

  • I love Ignacio but not the nicknames mentioned. Not a fan of nicknames. I named my daughter Isabella and that is what she is called although there are many nicknames possibilities.

  • Love Ignacio. I am not a fan of Iggy though. You could use Nacho as a nn (but imo, it's not much better than Iggy).

  • I like it.  I'm not a big fan of Iggy, and like others I'd worry Nacho might come off as derogatory.  Before I read that Nacho is a common nn for it I was thinking Nacio could work.  It reminds me of Nardo from West Side Story.

  • I like it. And I really like the nn Iggy. Reminds me of Iggy Pop, who; let?s face it, was pretty damn cool. CoolYes

As if the aging rockstar character from "Love Actually" wasn't totally based on Iggy. HmmConfused
