Any pg chemist or people who work with dangerous chemicals?

Hi all! I was recently laid off and I just got a job offer today from a company that works with cancer reagents.  They deal with cytotoxins and carbon nanotubes.  Curious if anyone currently works with anything closely related to these or any other highly dangerous chemicals.  I am pretty sure they meet OSHA guidelines - I am waiting on a response from the company.  I looked up cytotoxins and the only thing I could find was do not take them if pregnant - couldn't find anything about actually working with them.  I was curious if any science orientated individuals had an opinion on taking this type of job while pregnant.  Thanks so much for any help!

  • I used to work at a lab when I was pregnant with DS a few years ago and chemicals that would affect my pregnancy, I was not allowed to work with. Chemicals that should have no adverse reaction on pregnancy I was told I could work with as long as I had on my splash guard, lab coat, gloves and an extra pair of gloves. GL mama and I hope it all works out for the best for you!

  • Thank you all for commenting! I don't know a lot of the specifics about the job, so I don't really know how often or in what capacity I would be working with these things.  They do have fume hoods and I would assume all of the required PPE, I know a lot of it depends on how safe I am, but that's not always the case... I am still waiting to hear back from the company, so I haven't made a decision yet.  Thanks for the advice! :)
