There is also Seattle Center where the Space Needle is.. there is lots of kids stuff there from musuems to video game place with rides. Just google "Seattle Center". And if you take the Monorail there, it just adds to the fun. Monorail is just a few minutes walk from Pike Place Market which is a Seattle must see (where they throw the fish). So see the market (not *too* exciting for little kids) and then take the monorail to Seattle Center. We always park downtown at Pacific Place (google). Its cheap and central.
...those are all great ideas. And feel free to check my blog for more date specific (cheap or free) kid-related activities the week you are in town....
Volunteer park is great! It has a very unique view of the Seattle skyline, a water tower to climb, a playground and an victorian greenhouse that is nice to visit in yucky weather. The greenhouse has cactus and tropical plants including carniverous ones!

Re: Family-friendly Activities?
Ballard Locks- it's free and fun. There are no Salmon running through now but it's still fun. https://www.seattle.gov/tour/locks.htm
