1st Trimester

Disapointing 1st Dr Visit

I went to a new OB today, referred by my GP, who doesnt do babies...anyway I was so excited about everything and it was such a let down.  The receptionist told me I basicly just needed 15 minutes to take a pelvic and do vitals, then what ever questions I ask..and she was pretty close on timeing, but they had me waiting for TWO HOURS before the dr. showed.  I was about to walk out after 1, then the nurse came and got me only to have me sit naked in a freezing office waiting agian!  Plus I think I really didnt like the DR.  Shouldnt a woman know how it feels to vilolently poke and shake a pregnant woman's breasts and do a pelvic with a little bit of a gentle touch.  sheesh.    I guess im going to post on the SOFL board if anyone knows of a good OB in ft lauderdale.  i just moved here and can;t ask anyone at work...

  • I would definitely find a new OB.  I've never waited longer than 15 min in my OB's office.

  • I would find a new OB or find a midwife. That's awful and it's definitely bound to happen again and again and again! Go OB shopping while you still can.

  • A patient of mine suggested yelping my physicians.  I treat a lot of women's health pts as a physical therapist and my patient did not have a good experience with her OB.  She learned to yelp her doctors and found awesome reviews for her child's pediatrician and her new OB.  It's very interesting.  At least you get to hear from personal experiences with the OB, both good and bad.  Hope it helps!!!

  • Yeah, I would be looking for a new doctor!
  • My OB is about 30 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale in Boca Raton. I work in North Miami Beach but she is worth the drive. She is great. Look up Dr Lauren Feingold at Womens Health Partners. Good luck!
  • I am on my 3rd child and i have never had them feel my breasts while pregnant. Also you may want to consider a midwife, I had a doctor first and a midwife with my second and now my third. They truly are much better and they treat you like a person not a piece of meat like doctors tend to do. Midwifes will also sit down and explain things to you that you might not thought to ask, they can also set up appointments you may need, a doctor will not do that. Also your midwife delivers your baby, your doctor only delivers if he is working while your in labour, with my first son i had some doctor i never met in my life delivery my baby.
  • I'm sorry....I think I would look for a new Doc.

  • Hey Im in Lauderdale!!!
I can recommend a good practice to you.

Coe, Polliot and Fahey are off Commercial Blvd and they deliver at Broward General and Holy Cross. I have Dr. Coe and I like him, my friend had Dr. Fahey and loved her!!! Im so early along so I cant give you the full spetrum on Dr. Coe.

Where do you live in Lauderdale? Im up in Hillsboro Beach! How far along are you?

  • Your visit was more in depth then mine yesterday, I went in sat there for about five mins. She came in gave me sample prenatal vitamins, gave me a script for some blood work, ultrasound, and vitamins. Oh and made sure I knew to stay away from cats...no questions or anything then rescheduled my next appointment and left :p I know I can't expect much being so early on, but come on she could have sat down and taken a set of vitals. Isn't that's standard to get a base line. Hoping the ultrasound goes well... Good luck with finding a new doctor though :)

...poking and "shaking" your breasts????? I've been pregnant twice now and NEVER had my breasts fondled. After delivering DS they checked them at my 6 months follow up bc I was BFing and they wanted to check for clogged ducts or engorgement. I don't see why they would ever do a breast exam as part of an appointment unless you requested it? That's bizarre and I would be switching doctors....unless you kinda liked it...then I would stay and go often :-)

I don't know the case with OP, but when I had DS, I hadn't had a yearly exam in over a year and so the OB did a breast exam and yearly exam with my first prenatal appointment. I don't think the poking and shaking sounds good, but he did feel my breasts like you would do on a breast exam.

I would agree that you should look for a new OB though!

  • Thanks everyone, wasnt really concerned that they DID a breast exam, i have a history of cancer in my family ..it was really just the WAY she did it.  I am in search of a new doc now..
